Public Safety Minister Vic Toews Congratulates the Canada Border Services Agency on a Significant Seizure of Precursor Chemicals

PRINCE RUPERT, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/24/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement following the Canada Border Services Agency's (CBSA) seizure at the Port of Prince Rupert, of over 14 tonnes of precursor chemicals commonly used in the making of illicit drugs.

"This seizure comes as welcome news for families and communities across Canada. I commend the CBSA on this significant seizure of precursor chemicals, and for successfully preventing harmful drugs from finding their way to our streets and communities."

Through the National Anti-Drug Strategy, the Government of Canada is allocating $102 million over five years to combat the production and distribution of illegal drugs. From this funding, significant investments have been made to improve border security to curb the cross-border transportation of illegal drugs and proactively target illicit drug producers.
