TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Mad Mobile, the leading mobile platform company, was selected by retail giant Office Depot to build an app for the global release of Windows 8 on October 26th.

Built from the ground up to take full advantage of the Windows 8 new user interface, the app features Windows 8 design principles, leverages rapid gesture-based zoom, pan, and navigation, side-scrolling of products, snap multi-tasking, and social integrations.
The app will be available for download from the Windows Store and will present a "live tile" on the user's start screen, allowing customers to see the latest Office Depot deals for their local store in real time.
"The Windows 8 interface requires a fundamental rethinking of how content is structured and delivered," said Mad Mobile CEO, Bruce Bennett. "The touch-centric, tile-based user interface redefines how the user engages with content and it's critical to have a thorough understanding of touch interactions and best use cases when designing for this interface."
While the new Windows 8 interface and operating system spans the Microsoft ecosystem, Microsoft predicts that tablets will outsell desktop PCs as early as next year. And although Microsoft is a latecomer to the tablet market, Forrester predicts that Microsoft will become No. 2 for true tablets with approximately 27% market share with the release of Windows 8.
"Companies that are not making tablet a central part of their ecommerce strategy are missing out on significant revenue opportunities," said Mad Mobile President Greg Schmitzer. "The incumbent success of tablets as a mobile commerce channel—with conversion rates and average order values higher for tablets than they are on desktop computers or smartphones— suggests the need for companies to make tablet a focal point of their ecommerce strategy and not treat tablets simply as an offshoot of either desktop or mobile."
"While it's likely that it will take time for consumers to adapt to the new Windows 8 interface, it is absolutely critical for ecommerce executives to put their tablet strategy in place now," Bennett said. "If not, you will be getting thank you notes from your competitors."
