EdgeCast Enhances Global Content Delivery Network to Meet Surging Customer Demand

EdgeCast Networks, the world’s fastest and most reliable content delivery network, today announced network advancements designed to meet surging worldwide demand for its services.

The enhancements include EdgeCast adding new point of presence (PoP) locations in Vienna, Austria, Stockholm, Sweden, and São Paulo, Brazil to expand the reach and capacity of its global network, which now carries more than 4 percent of worldwide Internet traffic.

“Web content continues its exponential growth, and the number of connected devices is increasing by the minute. These factors—the explosion of both supply and demand—are fueling incredible growth in site acceleration and delivery services,” said Anthony Citrano, EdgeCast vice president of communications and marketing. “Performance matters more than ever, and that means a rapidly-growing need for intelligently delivering data from the Internet’s edge.”

Other network advancements include EdgeCast rolling out a new easy-to-use interface for its Edge Optimizer front-end optimization (FEO) service—a set of on-the-fly tools that optimize the performance of web sites without changes to the site code. This service was built in collaboration with Google and is the first to integrate Google PageSpeed functionality at the network edge.

EdgeCast has extended its real-time statistics app to Android devices, which follows its iOS app launched earlier in the year.

EdgeCast also bolstered its streaming network by migrating its platform to Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 and adding new FMS ingest capabilities in Frankfurt, Germany, and Hong Kong. Additionally, the company added many new reporting and analytics capabilities to its customer portal.
