Parliamentary Secretary Eve Adams Attends Special Citizenship Ceremony to Mark Veterans' Week

OTTAWA, Nov. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs, Eve Adams, on behalf of the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, today participated in a Veterans' Week citizenship ceremony welcoming Canada's newest citizens.

During the ceremony, 50 individuals from 25 countries took the oath of Canadian citizenship and became citizens of our great country.

"Today these new Canadians took an oath and a pledge; in return they will enjoy the democracy and freedom that we share as Canadians," said PS Adams. "This is especially fitting as this ceremony takes place during Veterans' Week, a time when we honour and remember the contributions of Canada's Veterans whose legacy is the peace and security we, as Canadian citizens, continue to enjoy today."

Canada welcomes more than 250,000 newcomers from around the world every year—newcomers who become citizens and embrace our values.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada hosts citizenship ceremonies—a newcomer's formal entry into the Canadian family—throughout the year. These ceremonies are significant events in the lives of applicants and the starting point to a promising future in their new home.

This Veterans' Week, take time to remember by attending a Remembrance Day ceremony, visiting a local cenotaph or monument, sharing your thoughts of remembrance online, or wearing a poppy with pride.
