REMINDER: Support the Fight Against HIV/AIDS by Observing Five Minutes of Silence on World AIDS Day

MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 12/01/12 -- The Farha Foundation, Quebec's leading HIV/AIDS fundraising organization, brings the CA MARCHE 2012 campaign to a close by paying tribute to those that have been touched by this terrible disease. In recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2012, the Farha Foundation invites everyone to partake in five minutes of silence online.

"Despite the inclement weather, our walk on September 30 was successful and we continue our efforts to engage our community as this campaign comes to a close. The Farha Foundation is the first in Quebec to request five minutes of silence online to support HIV/AIDS awareness and we are very proud of this," states Linda Farha, Farha Foundation Spokesperson. "This eco-friendly initiative takes place primarily through social media, and the hashtag "#5MinutesForAIDS" was created for everyone to share on Twitter. We are doing what we can to sensitize everyone about this terrible disease that affects some 20,000 men, women and children in Quebec alone. Social media allows us to reach a broad audience at once including our youth in hopes that we may educate them."

On December 1 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:05 p.m. EST, the Farha Foundation will ask everyone to refrain from engaging in any online conversation including tweeting, posting, emailing or texting in recognition of 20 years of tireless work in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Unity creates strength, and it's by combining forces that we can one day see an end to this disease. About CA MARCHE

CA MARCHE (camarche.ca), one of the first Farha Foundation events to emerge in 1993, is an annual walkathon of 7 kilometers, gathering thousands of people, with the aim of raising funds and sensitizing the population to the HIV/AIDS cause.

To maximize awareness for the event, the Farha Foundation asks you to spread the word to as many people as possible. In doing so, you will contribute directly to helping those living with HIV/AIDS, a disease that currently infects as many as two people a day in Quebec. For more information, please visit camarche.ca.
