CARLISLE, Mass., Dec. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Earley & Associates (E&A), a leading information architecture, taxonomy and search consultancy, today announced Information Architecture (IA) and indexing services for mobile application providers. E&A's mobile content architecture services tailor core methodologies for taxonomy development, content tagging, and user interface design to the rapidly developing mobile marketplace. "Mobile content architecture and tagging requires looking at how content is used, not just in the context of the query but in the larger context of social communication," said Seth Maislin, E&A's practice leader.
This service offering developed out of E&A's recent collaboration with the Hachette Book Group to develop a mobile version of the legendary reference text, Bartlett's Familiar Quotations, Eighteenth Edition. Earley & Associates developed the taxonomy and indexed nearly twenty thousand quotations.
With access to a huge and now-digital repository of indexed quotations, application users can navigate to relevant quotes or search for quotes about meaningful concepts, and even emotions, as well as author and book title. Quotes can be forwarded through social media or creatively combined with personal photos using Quoto™. The application is now available for download from the iTunes app store.
Liz Kessler, Digital Product Director for Hachette Book Group, in speaking about the partnership with Earley & Associates said, "We were extremely pleased with the IA Architecture, taxonomy and tagging team from E&A. Not only did E&A bring incredible enthusiasm to our brainstorming and metadata mapping workshops, but they provided a thoughtful articulation of search experience and workflow."
In announcing the mobile content indexing services, Seth Earley, CEO at E&A, said, "Mobile applications present new challenges in ensuring that content is relevant to users. With the rapid increase in content availability, application designers need to take a search-based approach that finds appropriately indexed content." Highlighting the analytic role of the professional indexer, Seth Maislin noted that the challenge of working with a text like Bartlett's is the immense subjectivity of trying to write keywords for highly connotative quotations taken out of context. Seth Maislin praised the team's sheer determination to build "a usable taxonomy of everything everyone ever said." On January 9th, 2013, Earley & Associates, together with speakers from Hachette, will discuss the challenges and novelties of building a searchable, navigable digital product from one of the world's classic reference books.
