Smart Gas Meters

NEW YORK, Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue:

Smart Gas Meters

http://www.reportlinker.com/p0286778/Smart-Gas-Meters.html#utm_source=pr...

The market for natural gas meters is in the midst of a significant long-term transitional period, moving from the traditional manual-read devices to more intelligent ones with sophisticated capabilities. These smart gas meters are expected to create efficiencies for utilities and open the door to enhanced applications that can benefit both utilities and customers.

Healthy growth in worldwide shipments of these meters is expected through the end of this decade, but the pace of growth will differ by region. Shipments will rise quickly in some Western European countries because of regulatory mandates that call for system-wide replacements of older meters. In Asia Pacific, emerging economies will also see smart gas meter shipments increase, though not as quickly as in Europe. In North America, the adoption of smart gas metering will be more muted because advanced meters with basic one-way communications capability have already been deployed. Moreover, not enough strong drivers are in place for utilities in North America to build a business case for moving more quickly to the latest technology. Worldwide, annual shipments of standard, advanced, and smart gas meters and communications modules will increase sharply from 22 million worldwide in 2012 to 33 million in 2020, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.5%.

This Pike Research report examines the global market opportunity for smart gas meters, analyzing the drivers and inhibitors shaping the market, along with major technology issues. The report also provides market forecasts through 2020 for smart gas meter shipments and the associated revenue, broken down by meter type and by region. Key vendor profiles, analysis of new market players, and a guide for utilities to build a business case are included as well.

Key Questions Addressed:

How many advanced and smart gas meters will be deployed through 2020?

What is the size of the revenue opportunity for the smart gas meter market?

What technology issues are shaping this market?

Who are some of the key players in the smart gas meter market?

The web app is Agile. The REST API is Agile. The testing and planning are Agile. But alas, Data infrastructures certainly are not. Once an application matures, changing the shape or indexing scheme of data often forces at best a top down planning exercise and at worst includes schema changes which force downtime. The time has come for a new approach that fundamentally advances the agility of distributed data infrastructures. Come learn about a new solution to the problems faced by software orga...
The OpenStack cloud operating system includes Trove, a database abstraction layer. Rather than applications connecting directly to a specific type of database, they connect to Trove, which in turn connects to one or more specific databases. One target database is Postgres Plus Cloud Database, which includes its own RESTful API. Trove was originally developed around MySQL, whose interfaces are significantly less complicated than those of the Postgres cloud database. In his session at 16th Cloud...

While great strides have been made relative to the video aspects of remote collaboration, audio technology has basically stagnated. Typically all audio is mixed to a single monaural stream and emanates from a single point, such as a speakerphone or a speaker associated with a video monitor. There is no question that the cloud is where businesses want to host data. Until recently hypervisor virtualization was the most widely used method in cloud computing. Recently virtual containers have been gaining in popularity, and for good reason. In the debate between virtual machines and containers, the latter have been seen as the new kid on the block – and like other emerging technology have had some initial shortcomings. However, the container space has evolved drastically since coming on...
In a recent research, analyst firm IDC found that the average cost of a critical application failure is $500,000 to $1 million per hour and the average total cost of unplanned application downtime is $1.25 billion to $2.5 billion per year for Fortune 1000 companies. In addition to the findings on the cost of the downtime, the research also highlighted best practices for development, testing, application support, infrastructure, and operations teams.
Even though it’s now Microservices Journal, long-time fans of SOA World Magazine can take comfort in the fact that the URL – soa.sys-con.com – remains unchanged. And that’s no mistake, as microservices are really nothing more than a new and improved take on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) best practices we struggled to hammer out over the last decade. Skeptics, however, might say that this change is nothing more than an exercise in buzzword-hopping. SOA is passé, and now that people are ...
