PARIS, Dec. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- One year after he resigned from the European Central Bank (ECB), leading German economist, Dr. Jurgen Stark, returns to the international stage when he addresses MIPIM 2013 delegates on March 14th at 10am, on the state of the financial crisis in Europe and how member states can pull themselves out of that crisis.
Organised by Reed MIDEM, a subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions, MIPIM will be held in Cannes from 12 to 15 March 2013.
Jurgen Stark was a member of the ECB Executive Board from 2006 to the end of December 2011. A Secretary of State in the German Federal Ministry of Finance from 1995 to 1998, he was the Personal Representative of the Federal Chancellor during preparations for the G7/G8 Economic Summits. He then worked for the Deutsche Bundesbank as Vice President in charge of European and International Affairs.
Known in Europe for his forthright views, Dr. Jurgen Stark resigned from the ECB in December 2011 to mark his disagreement with the ECB policy of buying bonds issued by countries on the periphery of the Eurozone. He then advocated the creation of a board of experts in charge of monitoring the budgets of member countries as the forerunner to a European Ministry of Finance.
At the time, Jurgen Stark said that "The break came in 2010. Until then everything went well. Then the ECB began to take on a new role, to fall into panic. It gave in to outside pressure from outside Europe. If the global economy stabilises, the potential for inflation has grown enormously. Governments have recognised that returning to budgetary discipline is indispensable."
For the first time, a year after his resignation created a stir in European economic circles and raised doubts about the single currency; this specialist in European economic affairs has chosen MIPIM as the platform to speak about the current financial crisis, a crucial factor for the future of the real estate sector.
"The prospects for recovery depend on the policies and measures that member states and European institutions take to clean up the financial system, boost commercial lending and restore confidence," says Filippo Rean, Director of MIPIM. "As the future of real estate is tightly linked to current economic developments, we are delighted to welcome an expert of Dr. Jurgen Stark's stature to MIPIM to help industry leaders and others to build growth strategies for the short and medium term."
The conferences at MIPIM 2013 will mainly focus on the outlook, challenges and opportunities for the next twelve months.
For four days, hundreds of leading experts will speak in a programme of over 60 conferences. They will be sounding out the current global economic situation, identifying growth opportunities, and giving the many attendees an in-depth review of the global real estate market. These conferences, which were attended by more than 5,000 people last year, are also a unique opportunity for meetings and discussions between professionals with converging interests.
Geographical and sector-specific panels called 'Masterminds' will feature real estate leaders who share their vision of how the industry will develop in their field. For example, the Hotel & Tourism Mastermind, to be held on 14 March at 4pm, will bring together the Chairman & CEO of Wyndham Hotel Group, the Chairman & CEO of Choice Hotels International and the President for Europe of Hilton Worldwide.
The MIPIM 2013 programme will also explore innovation in the real estate sector. The MIPIM Innovation Forum will hold a series of conferences devoted entirely to the subject of increasing the profitability of real estate assets through innovation.
True to its status as an international leader and business facilitator for players from all real estate sectors, MIPIM will hold a number of conferences on the opportunities offered by various geographies, including Turkey - this year's 'Country of Honour' - on city development strategies, and advances in the logistics sector.
