A-T Solutions Inc., a global leader in homeland and defense counterterrorism solutions headquartered in the Tysons Corner area of Vienna, Va., has been ranked No. 38 in the nation as one of the “Real Heroes of the American Economy” by Inc. magazine in its 2012 Inc. Hire Power Awards, a new annual ranking of the biggest job creators in America. A-T Solutions ranked second in job creation in Virginia and third within the U.S. government services industry. The company has experienced 251 percent growth in the past three years, expanding its workforce by 500 for a total of 785 employees.

“We were honored to be recognized as one of the ‘heroes’ of the American economy, because at A-T Solutions we consider it our mission to protect all the heroes who are working every day across the United States and abroad in the areas of law enforcement, national security, intelligence and defense to secure our world,” said Dennis Kelly, president and CEO of A-T Solutions. “It’s this mission and the passion our team has for our customers’ success that have allowed us to attract so many talented individuals to our team. We look forward to continuing to create jobs and grow our team to meet the needs of our country and our allies.”

The Hire Power Awards is one of many accolades A-T Solutions has earned in 2012. Earlier this year, Inc. recognized A-T Solutions in its 500/5000 list of fastest growing private companies in America for the sixth consecutive year. The Washington Business Journal in November listed the company as one of the largest private companies in the D.C. metro area and in October ranked A-T Solutions as one of the region’s 50 Fastest Growing Companies. In September, CEO Dennis Kelly was named “Executive of the Year” by the American Business Awards.

Operational Hadoop and the Lambda Architecture for Streaming Data Apache Hadoop is emerging as a distributed platform for handling large and fast incoming streams of data. Predictive maintenance, supply chain optimization, and Internet-of-Things analysis are examples where Hadoop provides the scalable storage, processing, and analytics platform to gain meaningful insights from granular data that is typically only valuable from a large-scale, aggregate view. One architecture useful for capturing...

Thanks to Docker, it becomes very easy to leverage containers to build, ship, and run any Linux application on any kind of infrastructure. Docker is particularly helpful for microservice architectures because their successful implementation relies on a fast, efficient deployment mechanism – which is precisely one of the features of Docker. Microservice architectures are therefore becoming more popular, and are increasingly seen as an interesting option even for smaller projects, instead of bein...
DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. With recent technological advances from Isomorphic Software and others, it is now feasible to create a rich desktop and tuned mobile experience with a single codebase, without compromising performance or usability.

Application metrics, logs, and business KPIs are a goldmine. It’s easy to get started with the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana) – you can see lots of people coming up with impressive dashboards, in less than a day, with no previous experience. Going from proof-of-concept to production tends to be a bit more difficult, unfortunately, and it tends to gobble up our attention, time, and money. In his session at DevOps Summit, Otis Gospodnetić, co-author of Lucene in Action and founder...
