The UK weather outlook for the weekend and next week is cold and wintery.

"Let us hope that the latest gloomy weather outlook won't cause the usual disruption and mayhem that we have seen in previous years," said RHA spokesperson Kate Gibbs.

"With snow forecast for many areas of the country towards the end of the weekend and into the beginning of next week, we hope that the Highways Agency will be sending its gritting trucks out in force.

"The last cold snap caused problems for motorists and hauliers alike. It is therefore essential that the lessons learnt from previous incidents of 'snow-chaos' have been noted and that the main roads and motorways are kept as clear as possible. Of particular importance to road hauliers is that as much attention is paid to the gritting of side roads, particularly those leading to delivery/distribution points and industrial sites.

"We are used to bad weather here in the UK but hopefully, if the forward planning works, the chances of the country coming to a halt as a result of snow should decrease."
