NEW YORK, Jan. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Gathering more data than needed ("over-collecting" for lawsuits and regulatory matters) is a common problem among companies involved in legal matters. It is costly, inefficient and complicated. Over-collecting happens when companies respond to eDiscovery requests by capturing too much data, including imaging full systems and whole hard drives, collecting non-relevant files and identifying ancillary systems. This data must then be reviewed by attorneys at a typical cost of between $2 to $7 per document. Business Intelligence Associates (BIA), an eDiscovery software and services leader and sponsor of the upcoming LegalTech tradeshow (January 29-31 at the Hilton New York), will provide solutions to minimize over-collection and reduce related liability, at Booth 1301 during the conference.
"As we work with clients to implement more efficient eDiscovery solutions, we've seen many incidents of too much data being collected during lawsuits and regulatory matters," noted BIA co-founder Alon Israely, Esq., CISSP. "Over-collection of data and documents in a legal matter occurs when companies don't have an efficient way to weed out irrelevant documents up-front. A single gigabyte can hold tens of thousands of documents, and if attorneys have to review that volume of data due to over-collection, it's going to be expensive. When companies over-collect, they potentially over-obligate themselves because that data could lead to additional unnecessary legal expenses."
Experts in eDiscovery and data collections will be on-hand at the company's booth (#1301) to discuss efficient collection and culling strategies with conference attendees. Those who stop by the booth can also sign up for BIA's TotalDiscovery application which offers a free Legal Hold service, and a fully integrated online eDiscovery workflow that allows users to manage eDiscovery behind the corporate firewall with very little training to stay compliant with legal hold and other eDiscovery obligations.
The BIA team will also provide best practice checklists and other helpful advice and material to assist companies in avoiding costly over-collection and inefficient eDiscovery. BIA experts will also provide attendees with free cost estimates, based on BIA's unique flat-fee pricing model, to help manage eDiscovery needs. BIA will demonstrate its suite of cloud-based eDiscovery tools. In addition, Alon Israely, an attorney and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), will deliver an interactive presentation on cyber threats and legal liabilities on January 29 at 11:45 AM. The session is open to all LegalTech attendees.
A must-attend event for attorneys, legal industry IT specialists and others concerned about protecting confidential data and finding out about the latest in legal technology, the LegalTech tradeshow is a premier industry conference.
