According to Jennifer L. Derenne, M.D. of the Stanford University Eating Disorders Research Program, 10% of those diagnosed with eating disorders eventually lose their lives. This year, eating disorder awareness month coincides with the conclusion of Watkins' latest Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) program, which has successfully progressed the recovery of 54 women facing the gamut of struggles with emotional eating and food.
Often referred to as "psychological acupressure," Watkins says people can stop compulsive emotional eating and food addiction using the Emotional Freedom Technique tapping therapy. A form of self-applied acupressure, it literally "taps" into the thought field and addresses specific issues and emotional blocks while stimulating specific points on the face and body. Unlike any other existing form of eating disorder treatment, Emotional Freedom Technique tapping therapy combines ancient Chinese medicinal theory with modern psychology to reprogram those pathways.
The Renfrew Center Foundation for Eating Disorders cites the mortality rate of anorexia at 20% of those diagnosed; the disorder causes 12 times more deaths among women aged 15 to 24 than all other causes for that age group.
"I'm fighting those odds with tapping therapy," Watkins said. "The women I've worked with have not only released lifelong destructive eating patterns, they've seen positive transformations in nearly every other area of their lives." Watkins recently released the online video "What is EFT?" to demonstrate the body's tapping points and basic use of the tapping technique.
