FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Law Firm of Mark A. Tepper P.A. is alerting investors to protect themselves from stock broker fraud. The firm has reason to believe that certain stock brokers may not be fully disclosing the risk in their recommendations to seniors, while promising a better return on declining retirement investments.
"With interest rates falling, many seniors looking for higher yield on their investments may be persuaded to purchase complex real estate investment trusts known as REITS or other sophisticated financial products like private placements, without full risk disclosure," said Ft. Lauderdale securities fraud attorney Mark A. Tepper.
"Return on principal is not as important as return of principal and a 'pie in the sky' promise of high returns can lure seniors into unsuitable high risk investments that they would not make if they fully understood the risk," said Tepper, a former Chief Trial Counsel at the New York Attorney General's Bureau of Investor Protection and Securities.
Last October, FINRA announced it sanctioned David Lerner Associates of Syosset, N.Y $14 Million for unfair practices in the sale of Apple REIT Ten and for charging excessive markups on Municipal Bonds and CMOs. And, the Enforcement Section of the Massachusetts Securities Division reported it has ordered independent broker-dealer LPL Financial to re-pay $2 million in restitution to investors who bought its shares of certain non-traded REITS.
If you were told that your investment was "safe", and your principal is not returned, you'll want to investigate whether the risks were fully disclosed. If not, you may have a valid claim.
