DELTA, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/11/13 -- Today, the Honourable Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Associate Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Delta-Richmond East, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Delta Gymnastics Society under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud our Government continues to ensure that the infrastructure needs of communities in British Columbia are addressed. We are listening to the needs of our Canadian families and acting on them," said Minister Findlay. "Our Government's investment is demonstrating our commitment to creating jobs, growth and long term prosperity for this community."
The Harper Government's investment of $60,300 will improve accessibility of the Delta Sport Development Centre. The funds will be used to install an elevator in the facility, which will offer easier access to gymnastics programs for participants of all abilities.
"Delta Gymnastics Society is most grateful for the financial support from the Government of Canada towards the addition of an elevator in our facility," said Lianna Nevraumont, Delta Gymnastics Society Board of Directors Chair. "This funding will provide easy and convenient access to young parents with infants, seniors, people with physical disabilities, and injured athletes and family members to our viewing area."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
