PointRoll Names Mario Diez Chief Executive Officer

PointRoll, a Gannett company and a leading provider of digital advertising technology and services, today announced the appointment of Mario Diez as Chief Executive Officer. Diez will be based at the company’s headquarters in King of Prussia, PA, outside Philadelphia.

This is a homecoming of sorts, as Diez opened the New York market for PointRoll in 2003, when the company was a two-year-old startup. In the years since, he has become one of the industry’s leaders at the vanguard of the display advertising ecosystem’s evolution.

“Combining PointRoll’s creative and delivery legacy with the back-end analytics and scale that marketers want makes PointRoll a very exciting place to work in the years to come,” said Diez. “I joined PointRoll as its 13th employee more than a decade ago, and today, I am returning as its 266th. We intend to drive innovation and value just as we did as a startup, all while providing the same quality service that has been our hallmark throughout.”

Diez takes the helm at a pivotal time for PointRoll as it further expands beyond offering rich media, video and mobile display advertising to being a multi-screen digital advertising creation, delivery and measurement provider. Recognizing the proliferation of multi-screen media engagement and the difficulty marketers have with existing technologies and disparate, multi-vendor solutions, PointRoll delivers both the technology and support services to enable buyers and sellers to bridge this gap.

“The intersection of consumer behavior and technology is driving marketers to move beyond just exploring multi-screen strategies to implementing them at scale,” said David Payne, Chief Digital Officer at Gannett. “PointRoll has the relationships in place, has an incredible service reputation, and has the leader to meet this need as we build the technology to make this work. Mario has a keen understanding of the industry and the experience needed to lead PointRoll into the future.”

Today, PointRoll provides HTML5 and Flash ad-authoring tools with single tag delivery and the ability to distribute ads and measure campaign performance on any digital screen in all display environments, including social media. PointRoll delivers and measures the effectiveness on a customized basis for more dynamic campaigns on behalf of more advertisers, agencies and publishers than anyone else online.

“PointRoll is well positioned to provide deep solutions across the three primary needs of brands: exceptional creative, multi-screen media distribution and meaningful measurement,” said Diez. “We’re making it easy via simple-to-use tools, enhanced media and targeting capabilities, and are already testing attribution analytics. This will enable marketers to better gauge campaign effectiveness across not only their buy, but across multiple devices.”

Diez has been at the center of creative, media and measurement technologies, building sales for and leading some of the best-regarded and innovative technologies in digital media. After senior roles at New York Times Digital and PointRoll, Diez joined Centro to build its local media platform in New York as Vice President of Eastern Sales. After Centro, as Vice President for Datran Media, he launched Aperture, the industry’s first real time analytics platform based on verified household data. Most recently, he led quadrantONE, the industry’s first and only multi-company private exchange exclusively devoted to premium local publishers.
