Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 Hosts HOMEGROWN Village Featuring All Things Food for Makers and Foodies to Gardeners and Cooks

SEBASTOPOL, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/29/13 -- Maker Faire, the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth, to be held on May 18 and 19 at the San Mateo County Event Center will spotlight food making -- and makers, urban homesteading and farming, and sustainable practices in the event's HOMEGROWN Village. For the fifth consecutive year, Maker Faire is partnering with Farm Aid to bring this specially curated part of the event to life. HOMEGROWN Village is all about sharing with Maker Faire attendees every aspect of food making: farming and gardening, harvesting, cooking, and eating. Whether it's learning how to get back to the basics when it comes to food or apply creativity to food growing and making, attendees will be sure to eat up what HOMEGROWN Village has to offer.

Alongside a bevy of food makers, special presentations, and workshops, two new features have been added to HOMEGROWN Village this year: the Edible Marketplace and the Farm & Food Film Fest. Here are some highlights of this year's HOMEGROWN Village:

A record 165,000 people attended the two flagship Maker Faires, in the Bay Area and New York, in 2012 with 44% of attendees being first timers at the Bay Area event, and 61% in New York. A family event, the vast majority attend with children. In 2013, over 60 community-driven Mini Maker Faires are expected around the world, including Tokyo and Rome.
