Pan-Regional Service Provider will Provide Full Cable Landing Facility and
Maintenance Support for Tricom's Submarine Cable System in Hong Kong
HONG KONG, Aug. 31 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Asia Netcom announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tricom Asia. Under the MoU, Asia Netcom will provide Tricom Asia with cable landing station, PoP, backhaul and operations and maintenance services to support the landing of the Vietnam Hong Kong Cable (VNHKC) system in Hong Kong.
"With this agreement, Tricom not only becomes a strategic customer for Asia Netcom, but the company's new subsea cable makes them an important partner in bringing seamless connectivity to one of the region's fastest growing markets -- Vietnam," said Bill Barney, Asia Netcom's president and chief executive officer. "At the same time, Tricom's selection of our infrastructure is further validation of the quality of our facilities, which also support our own subsea network."
After a tendering process that began in mid-2005, and following a thorough evaluation of several suppliers, Tricom Asia selected Asia Netcom for its state-of-the-art cable landing station.
"Asia Netcom boasts one of the most well-connected, carrier neutral datacenters in Hong Kong, and Tricom Asia was impressed with Asia Netcom's long term commitment to service the VNHKC," said Peter Landgren, CEO and president of Tricom Asia. "The infrastructure Asia Netcom provides in Hong Kong and the extensive onward connectivity, not only in the region but also globally, is something that will secure a high service level to us, our partners and our customers."
The VNHKC, with an estimated 'Ready for Service' date in Q1, 2008, is a 1050km long multi-terabit fiber optic submarine cable system with two branching units, connecting Da Nang in Vietnam and Tseung Kwan O in Hong Kong.
Asia Netcom's regional IP backbone consists of over 30 Gbps of intra-Asia and trans-Pacific capacity. Backed by an extensive portfolio of peering relationships in key Asian and global markets, Asia Netcom's Internet backbone now offers one of the best Internet connectivity performances in the Asia Pacific region.
