Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Frost & Sullivan Lauds Scientific Dust Collectors' Continuing Contribution to Industrial Air Filtration Technology
Frost & Sullivan Lauds Scientific Dust Collectors' Continuing Contribution to Industrial Air Filtration Technology

By: PR Newswire
Sep. 21, 2006 11:45 AM

PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Frost & Sullivan recently selected Scientific Dust Collectors as the recipient of the 2006 U.S. Industrial Air Filtration Technology Leadership of the Year Award in recognition of its ability to provide superior technology solutions for customers in removing miniscule particulates for specific applications and providing higher efficiency.

"The overall industrial air filtration market has not witnessed many notable technological developments in the recent years, which increases the significance of those achieved by Scientific Dust Collectors," says Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Jorge Moreno.

Scientific has launched many new products with appreciable developments. For instance, the company's advanced field cartridge collector, the SL- HR helps end users reduce their maintenance and operating costs.

While the standard SL cartridge collector is available in 4 to 24 cartridge units with flows from 1800 Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) to 15600 CFM or between 450 and 650 CFM per cartridge, the SL-HR or 'High Ratio' cartridge collector operates at flows up to 1000 CFM per cartridge. As a result end- users need to use fewer cartridges for the same air volume.

SL-HR cartridge collectors use reverse pulsejet mechanism and can efficiently remove sub-micron particulates. The other attractive features of the cartridge include a nozzle based cleaning system, internal air baffles, Evase' - a special projection to maximize airflow for better cleaning and reduced pressure drops, same front and back cartridge, and a spring-loaded door.

"With these value-add features, the company has succeeded in achieving lower pressure drops, less damage to filter media thus improving filter life, reducing the need for a cyclone pre-filters, and better options for synthetic filter media," says Moreno.

Yet another innovation that will greatly benefit customers is the SDC Rotary Airlock, which allows for uninterrupted operation of the systems. This flexible air seal allows bigger particulates to pass through the valve while the air seal is intact.

The dust collector can safely operate even when there is a need to change or repair the barrel. Hence, there is no loss in man-hours, which is very essential for an industrial set up. This airlock also minimizes a worker's exposure to harmful dusts, thus reducing the chances of sickness and other health ailments. Further, it protects the entire unit from material backup and subsequent damage.

Overall, Scientific continues to be unmatched in the industrial air filtration industry for major innovations and its ability to directly influence customer business. In recognition of its ongoing commitment to excellence in technology and customer value, Frost & Sullivan presents Scientific Dust Collectors with the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Technology Leadership of the Year Award in the U.S. industrial air filtrations markets.

Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to a company that has demonstrated excellence in technology leadership within its industry. The recipient company has demonstrated technology leadership by excelling in all stages of the technology life cycle -- incubation, adaptation, take-up and maturity -- to ensure a continuous flow of improvements.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
