Sky Deutschland AG, the leading pay TV company in Germany and Austria, continued to deliver strong operational results in the second quarter 2013. Net customer growth was 47,900 (Q2 2012: 47,100), bringing the total number of customers to 3,453,000 (Q2 2012: 3,132,000). Gross additions for the second quarter amounted to 131,400 (Q2 2012: 124,000).
Revenues in Q2 2013 grew by 15% to €375.4 million (Q2 2012: €326.7 million). Subscription revenues were the key revenue driver, up 16% to €347.0 million (Q2 2012: €300.0 million). This was supported by higher subscriber numbers, as well as an increase in ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) of €1.58 to €33.74 (Q2 2012: €32.16). These developments drove a 60% increase in EBITDA to €36.8 million (Q2 2012: €23.0 million) and EBIT grew to positive €14.8 million (Q2 2012: positive €5.9 million).
On an operating level, Sky premium HD continued its success, with the number of customers rising to 1,69 million, i.e. almost half of Sky subscribers now take Sky premium HD. Sky+ also experienced strong demand. One in three customers (1.17 million) now enjoys the freedom and convenience of Sky+, including Sky Anytime, Sky’s free VOD service. Sky Go, the leading over-the-top pay TV platform in Germany and Austria continued to resonate strongly with customers as well, recording almost 16.7 million logins.
Record audience levels underline the growing appeal of Sky’s offering. 12 million unique viewers (+20%) watched the great entertainment line-up across all Sky channels in Q2 2013.
