Deem Ground (formerly Global Ground Automation), the leading ground transportation marketplace and wholly-owned subsidiary of Deem™ (formerly Rearden Commerce), announced today the availability of its white paper, Opportunities to Compete in Ground Transportation with On-Demand Mobile Technology. The paper describes how by harnessing technology and working closely with technology vendors, the limousine and chauffeured transportation companies will be well-positioned to expand their business in the B2B corporate market, and improve service to their corporate customers.
In an effort to understand the attitudes and awareness within the chauffeured transportation industry toward on-demand mobile applications, Deem Ground and LCT Magazine conducted a survey and roundtables to engage more than 600 corporate travel managers and ground transportation providers responsible for ground transportation.
Corporate travel managers indicated that the current system of advanced reservations for chauffeured transportation meets their needs, although the potential to extend the current model to include mobile apps for ease of use and last-minute planning will be desirable in the future to corporations and employees. The research indicates that 74% prefer to have a single solution with advanced reservation features (reliability, comfort, safety, pricing predictability, access to approved preferred providers and reporting) coupled with on-demand capability.
We found that ground transportation operators’ perceive on-demand technologies to be mostly positive, with 62% saying the technology has positive impact on the chauffeured transportation industry. Ground transportation providers expressed a general openness to new technology and ideas that can help the industry grow and adapt.
“While there are challenges with regard to integrating the new on-demand technology with existing advanced-reservation technology, the opportunity to participate with on-demand technology is undeniable and promising to both corporations and ground transportation providers,” said Amy Harris, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Deem Ground. Harris adds that “critical to success is having massive amounts of ‘content’ or relationships with thousands of ground transportation providers who are willing to participate and ensure that customer demand is met with a positive customer experience.”
“While they may be ‘late to the game’ with on-demand technology, traditional chauffeured transportation companies have entrenched relationships with their customers and can offer complete business transparency,” said Sara Eastwood-McLean, Publisher of LCT Magazine. “The traditional operators ensure that all safety standards for the vehicles are met, insurances are paid, state regulations are followed, drivers are trained and licensed, and vehicles are regularly cleaned, inspected and updated."
The extremely fragmented ground transportation industry is looking for a leader to create the network and provide the technology and integration to operate a combined advanced reservation/on-demand model. Participating corporate travel managers suggested that desired qualities in an industry leader are the ability to provide an integrated solution, being well established in the technology and travel management fields, and having deep relationships and credibility with corporations.
