Tripwire, Inc., a leading global provider of risk-based security and compliance management solutions, today announced the results of a survey of 167 attendees of the Black Hat USA 2013 security conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The majority of respondents – 53 percent – said they expect their company to be hacked within the next six months.
According to the 2013 Verizon Data Breach Investigation Report, hacking actions are the most common attack method used against organizations. Hacking made up 52 percent of the 621 confirmed data breaches and 47,000 security incidents covered by the report.
“It’s surprising that nearly 50% of the respondents continue to believe they’re not at risk when all the available data points to increasing rates of compromise,” said Tim Erlin, director of IT security and risk strategy. “This ‘everyone else, but not me’ attitude inhibits real progress in information security and allows attackers to persist unnoticed inside an organization for longer periods of time, increasing the impact of breaches.”
