Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

New Oce CS9090 Super Wide, Dual-Ink, Solvent Inkjet Printer
Oce CS9090 Printer Joins Oce CS9065 to Expand Product Line

By: PR Newswire
Sep. 25, 2006 04:45 PM

CHICAGO, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oce , a global leader in digital printing solutions, today announced the Oce CS9090, a 90- inch wide, high quality, production speed printer that can use either Low- solvent or Eco-solvent inks to create outdoor-durable prints. This super wide version of the Oce CS9065, introduced in May 2006, is part of the company's expansion of its line of outdoor-durable printers. Both printers will be on display in Oce booth #734 at the Specialty Graphics Imaging Association's (SGIA) Annual Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, September 26-29, 2006.

Superior Ink Economy and Image Quality with Oce VariaDot(TM) Imaging Technology

Both models offer superior ink economy, print quality, and speed through the use of Oce VariaDot imaging technology, the next evolution of piezo inkjet technology that enables a print head to produce dots with variable sizes versus print heads using fixed dot technology. The use of Oce VariaDot imaging technology has many advantages and results in the following customer benefits:

Superior ink economy: The four color ink usage of the Oce CS9065 and Oce CS9090 is significantly lower compared to the ink usage of six color printers using fixed dot inkjet technology; 25 to 35 percent less ink is used.

Superior print quality: Finer details and smoother gradients in highlight areas and crisp colors in the mid-tones and shadows.

Double the productivity: Four color printing is perfect for all application areas. It doubles the productivity of the Oce CS9065 and CS9090 because the number of print head nozzles per color are doubled.

Production Print Speeds

The Oce CS9065 (65-inch) and Oce CS9090 (90-inch) are high speed, high quality printing systems that deliver outdoor durable output up to 3 years. The Oce CS9065 and Oce CS9090 deliver true 720 x 720 dpi resolution at print speeds up to 140 square feet per hour in production (four-pass) mode. In production plus mode (4 pass) print speeds up to 172 square feet per hour at resolutions of 540 x 720 dpi can be achieved. In high speed (two-pass) mode print speeds up to 245 square feet per hour can be achieved with a resolution of 360 x 720 dpi. Top print speeds of up to 452 square feet per hour can be achieved at 360 x 360 dpi resolution.

Ready for Long, Unattended Production Runs

The Oce CS9065 and Oce CS9090 are equipped with a motorized winder and unwinder unit enabling the use of bulk media rolls up to 220 lbs. Both printers include sophisticated self-maintenance systems on board. The required daily operator maintenance is limited to less than five minutes when Low-solvent inks are used. Machines running Eco-solvent inks require only five minutes per week of operator maintenance.

Dual-solvent Inks Suit Nearly Any Application, Any Environment

The Oce CS9065 and Oce CS9090 can be equipped with either Low-solvent or Eco-solvent inks. Eco-solvent inks offer customers three year outdoor durability, while making it possible to use the printers in a regular office or small print shop environment without the need for an air purification system. Coated and uncoated media can be used, for indoor and short- to mid- term outdoor applications.

Low-solvent inks produce less solvent odor than full-solvent inks offering excellent outdoor durability up to 3 years but with increased chemical and abrasion resistance compared to Eco-solvent inks. An optional air purification system is available for use with Low-solvent inks. By actively filtering the air coming from the printer, the solvent levels in the working area are far below accepted safety levels.

The Oce CS9065 and Oce CS9090 are ideal for short run print jobs and are designed for light to mid-range production environments where high quality output and outdoor durability are required. Sample applications include point-of-purchase displays, vehicle graphics, transit advertising, exhibit graphics, banners, museum graphics, wayfinding and window displays.

Availability

The Oce CS9090 is expected to be available for customer shipment in North America in the fourth quarter of 2006. For more information, contact your local Oce office or visit http://www.oceusa.com/ .
