We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.
WASHINGTON, DC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 09/27/06 -- Restore Media, LLC announces the Traditional
Building Exhibition and Conference will return to New Orleans, October
17-20, 2007. A national trade show and conference for architects,
designers, contractors, developers, planners, building owners, historic
home owners and craftsmen involved in restoration, renovation, and
traditionally-inspired new design and construction, the Traditional
Building Show is the one place where historic restoration and new
traditional architecture come together under one roof.
Show attendees will be able to choose from over 70+ educational seminars
and workshops covering a wide array of topics and product segments,
including window and sash repair, door and hardware installation, plaster
repair, roofing, siding, ornamental ironwork and paint selection.
Traditional building techniques, how-to information and old world
craftsmanship will come to life in the Live Demonstration areas throughout
the exhibit hall.
"We are thrilled that the Traditional Building Show is coming to New
Orleans," said Patricia Gay, Executive Director, The Preservation Resource
Center of New Orleans. "Nowhere in the world are historic buildings so
abundant, but yet so threatened. The conference will inspire us even more
to restore, renovate and re-build our homes using traditional -- and
enduring -- techniques. We cannot wait for the show and are making plans
already for all sorts of activities and events leading up to it."
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed more than 200,000 homes and 18,000
commercial and public buildings in Louisiana, and countless more along the
Gulf Coast. With much of this region's architectural and urban heritage
devastated this may well have been the greatest cultural disaster in
American history. But through the resolve of citizens, leadership from the
Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) and billions in funding, the region is
poised to come back stronger than ever.
Already, the LRA and Urban Design Associates have created the "Louisiana
Speaks Pattern Book." This tool for homeowners, builders and developers
gives design guidelines to help preserve the region's valuable character
when rebuilding. "We are proud to partner with the Traditional Building
Exhibition and Conference as it makes its return to New Orleans," says LRA
Executive Director, Andy Kopplin. "This event will provide thousands of
citizens who are rebuilding and restoring their homes with techniques to
maintain the architectural and cultural history of New Orleans and the Gulf
Coast."
"Like so many Americans, we wondered how we could help," said Peter H.
Miller, President of Restore Media LLC, the producer of the Traditional
Building Exhibition and Conference. "When the New Orleans 2005
Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference was cancelled due to
Hurricane Katrina, we knew our misfortune paled in comparison to the human
suffering in the region. Throughout this past year our magazines have
covered the contributions the traditional building industry has made to the
rebuilding effort," explains Miller. "Now, with the encouragement of New
Orleans' city officials, local organizations and residents we will return.
We are excited to produce an event that will serve as a forum for the
rebuilding efforts of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Join us!"
The Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference will collaborate with
several important partners whose work in the region is already making a
difference, including The Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans,
www.prcno.org; AIA New Orleans, www.aianeworleans.org; The Louisiana
Recovery Authority, http://www.lra.louisiana.gov/; and many more.
Mark your calendar for this exciting event! October 17-20, 2007.
The Louisiana Recovery Authority is the planning and coordinating body that
was created in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita by Governor
Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to plan for the recovery and rebuilding of
Louisiana. The authority is working with Governor Blanco to plan for
Louisiana's future, coordinate across jurisdictions, support community
recovery and resurgence, and ensure integrity and effectiveness. Working in
collaboration with local, state and federal agencies, the authority is also
addressing short-term recovery needs while simultaneously guiding the
long-term planning process.
