LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - September 03, 2013) - The Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP) announces a significant expansion to its CAPAssurance medical professional liability program. Now, in addition to giving California hospitals and medical facilities access to superior professional liability protection and risk management expertise, CAPAssurance offers a superior choice to large physician groups as well.
"Recognizing that large, California-based physician medical groups need affordable medical professional liability protection in order to run successful practices, we have expanded the CAPAssurance Risk Purchasing Group to ensure these groups have more choices for the protection they require," said James L. Weidner, chief executive officer of CAP. "As a California-based, physician-owned organization with extensive medical professional liability experience, CAP brings to bear the necessary expertise to meet the needs of this growing market segment."
CAPAssurance is led by industry veteran John Raleigh, who also serves as CAP's vice president of Membership. Rounding out the leadership team is Timothy P. Foley, chief underwriting officer, and a board that includes CAP CEO Weidner as well as physician members J.C. Cobo, MD and Bela Kenessey, MD who chair the MPT Board of Trustees and CAP Board of Directors, respectively. The risk purchasing group will be using an A+ rated, national medical professional liability company to underwrite the program.
CAPAssurance members also benefit from CAP's time-tested and proven products, services, and professionals ranging from its superior risk management team, CAP's claims services professionals, human resources support services, the CAPSource group purchasing program, and insurance services.
"For nearly 40 years, CAP has helped its member physicians minimize medical practice-related risks while at the same time delivering the highest quality legal support services," said Cindy Belcher, CAP's senior vice president, Corporate Strategy and Business Development. "By expanding the reach of CAPAssurance, large physician medical groups now have access to this expertise."
