ROSEVILLE, Calif., Sept. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- WholesaleInsurance.net, a leading national provider of financial planning services and online life insurance quotes, is proud to announce its Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM) campaign.
September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, an industry-wide awareness event meant to educate consumers on the importance of life insurance. To participate, WholesaleInsurance.net will publish blogs, social media posts, infographics, and quote results to help show consumers how affordable life insurance is, what it offers, and the kinds of lifestyle choices that affect their rates.
According to the LIFE Foundation, an astonishing 93 percent of Americans think life insurance is something most people need. But only 41 percent own an individual policy. Individual policies aren't the same as coverage available through an employer, which is usually much less comprehensive and classified as group coverage.
"Many people don't realize that group life insurance through work isn't enough to meet their needs," says Ryan Pinney, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for WholesaleInsurance.net. "If you change jobs, are laid off, or go into business for yourself, that coverage vanishes. Also, group coverage amounts are usually very small. If you have debts, financial obligations, or children, it probably won't cover all your expenses."
According to LIMRA, the average American with life insurance has enough to equal four times their annual income. But experts recommend as much as 10-15 times your annual income. For those who decide they want to buy life insurance or upgrade their existing policies, Pinney recommends these three steps:
Step 1: Figure out how much life insurance you need. In general, this entails calculating your current and future financial obligations, and subtracting your savings, investments, and spouse's earnings.
Step 2: Decide between term and permanent. Term life insurance is more affordable, but only covers you for a limited period of time. Permanent life insurance is more expensive, but offers coverage for your entire life, along with cash value that accumulates over time.
Step 3: Compare rates. Brokers such as WholesaleInsurance.net compare rates among top-rated nationally known carriers, saving consumers time and effort.
"The best thing you can do when shopping for insurance is compare rates," says Pinney. "We work with carriers who consistently offer lower prices for the same coverage offered by more well-known companies. Plus, if you have a health condition or special circumstances that make getting life insurance difficult, a broker will know which carrier has approved folks in similar situations."
