De Stains had previously been serving as a Vice Chairman of the TELL Board of Directors. He played a key role in the organization of our 40th Anniversary celebration, and is also currently actively engaged in leading planning for our upcoming Connoisseurs' Auction on November 22. Ian will be responsible for representing TELL to external audiences and in marketing and fundraising.
TELL Board Chairman Craig Saphin said, "The appointment of an Executive Director is a strategic move by TELL aimed at increasing the level of service to the community. Ian de Stains knows Japan well and is well connected. I am thrilled that Ian has agreed to take up the role."
De Stains has made Tokyo his home since 1976 when he was seconded by the BBC to NHK. He has since pursued a career in corporate communications and public affairs. Ian was previously Executive Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan until March 2011 and has had a long association with TELL. He received the prestigious designation of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his service to the community.
"I have had a very long association with TELL so it is doubly exciting to formally join the staff. Just this year we celebrated our 40th anniversary and announced some ambitious goals. I am looking forward to working with the team to lead the organization forward in what are challenging but nevertheless exciting times", said de Stains.
In addition, TELL is pleased to announce that Vivian Morelli has also joined the TELL team as of August 12, 2013 as Events & Communications Coordinator.
TELL wishes them every success in their new roles and thanks them for the continued dedication to providing support to our community.
