Plone and Drupal: Different Approaches, Different Results
paul.nowak wrote: Matt, thanks for the comments. I made an error on the version of Plone. It's 2.5 Plone running on Zope 2.9x. In regards to the additional products, we have a skin installed and we have a product that we had custom developed for us that connects to a PostgreSQL database. We've looked at slow PostgreSQL queries causing problems and have not been able to find an issue. We've also tested for the case where the PostgreSQL server is down and have not been able to create an issue. We therefor...

The Internet Address Book: All Social Identities on One Platform
The Internet Address Book: All Social Identities on One Platform

By: PR Newswire
Oct. 5, 2006 01:48 PM

RIJEN, The Netherlands, October 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Social interaction between people is increasingly taking place on the Internet. Users of the Internet often have several Internet addresses, such as Skype, MySpace, YouTube and e-mail. These users have a need for a single platform on which they can find and manage these contact details. The Internet Address Book, which launched this week, is a new service that brings together all your online identities in one place - social networking websites, instant messaging IDs and web addresses. Research shows that over 60% of all internet users now have an Internet address that is linked to a social network. The new Internet Address Book is responding to this trend and provides a central place for all these addresses, http://www.internetaddressbook.com/. The Internet Address Book is an initiative by the Dutch company Delfblue BV, Rijen, The Netherlands.

One central place

In addition to e-mail and URL (the address of a website) there are now many more different types of Internet addresses. These include blogs, instant messaging, VoIP (e.g. Skype) and exceptionally popular communities such as Flickr, MySpace or LinkedIn. The Internet Address Book has created a single place in which all addresses are collected and where people can find each other and can be found.

Search, find & be found

The Internet Address Book can be used to search for Internet addresses of people. Users can register on the site with all kinds of Internet addresses they wish to share. These details are subsequently made available to all visitors. In addition, The Internet Address Book also performs 'live' searches for people on the Internet. This means that The Internet Address Book sets up a direct link with - and searches in - various social networks such as LinkedIn, Hi5, Xanga, MySpace and many more.

My Internet Address Book

All registered users can use 'My Internet Address Book'. This is an online address book which allows users to manage all their contacts. They can subsequently access these details, which are always up-to-date, from any place in the world. If any of the contacts change their details, the user will be informed of this. It is also possible to create groups and to put the contacts into these (such as friends, colleagues, football, etc.). Users can add contacts to their address book with a single click. Users can furthermore send others an e-mail invitation to enter their details in The Internet Address Book.

Most Wanted

If a user is not able to find a person on The Internet Address Book, he can place a 'Wanted' message. This is a message from a user for a person whose details are not available on The Internet Address Book. The Internet Address Book will try to bring these people in contact with each other by means of, among other things, messages in Google and RSS feeds. This function is to be extended to an even broader global network in the near future. Since the past eight days 20% of the Wanteds placed by users have generated a positive result. Were as the wanted person has actually registered with The Internet Address book.

Note for editors (not for publication) References

The new Internet Address Book went online for a test period of 2 weeks Friday (22-9-06). Pete Cashmore, a known criticaster of social networks and web 2.0 applications wrote a very positive article on this Dutch initiative.

Word is now spreading within this field across the globe among other things via RSS news feeds.

The website currently scores very high on the democratic news site Digg.com.
