ATLANTA, GA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/05/06 -- King & Spalding, a leading international law
firm, announced today that John Harbin, a litigator with more than 20 years
of experience handling intellectual property and complex business cases,
has joined the firm as partner in its intellectual property practice group.
Harbin's practice will focus on trying patent, trade secret and trademark
cases for a broad spectrum of clients. He will practice from the firm's
Atlanta office.
"John is an excellent lawyer and a natural leader, and we are pleased to
welcome him to the firm's IP practice," said Courtland L. Reichman, head of
the firm's intellectual property practice group. "John is a seasoned trial
lawyer with a reputation for understanding his clients' businesses, so we
look forward to the contributions he will make to the continued growth of
our practice. His knowledge of the intellectual property issues
biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients face will be particularly
important as we continue to expand our reach in those industries."
Harbin is the fifth new partner to join King & Spalding's intellectual
property practice in the past two weeks. Last week, the firm announced that
partners Tony Askew, Steve Schaetzel and Jim Johnson had joined the firm's
Atlanta office, and that it was establishing a patent prosecution
capability in its New York office with the addition of partner Ken
Sonnenfeld.
Harbin joins King & Spalding from Powell Goldstein LLP, where he was a
partner. While there, he handled intellectual property and complex
commercial cases for clients in several different industries, including
medical devices, computer hardware and software, telecommunications,
industrial equipment and processes, office equipment, and drug patents and
biotechnology, among others. He has significant courtroom experience,
having tried more than thirty jury and bench trials, and has handled
numerous appeals and arbitrations.
Harbin earned a B.A., cum laude, from the University of Georgia and a J.D.
from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is a Board member of the
Atlanta Bar Association and serves as a Member-At-Large of the Litigation
Section Board.
"I am excited to be joining King & Spalding, a firm with an excellent
national intellectual property practice that is experiencing great
momentum," Harbin said. "I have known many of my new partners
professionally and personally for many years, and I now look forward to
working with them to serve the firm's clients."
