SDN World Congress – Advantech (TWSE: 2395.TW) Networks and Communications Group and Netronome, a leading developer of flow processors, announced at the SDN & OpenFlow World Congress in Frankfurt, Germany that they have teamed up to produce high performance x86 systems for the networking and telecom industries.
Netronome’s flow processors offload x86 cores from compute intensive tasks such as network load balancing between cores, cut-through forwarding of traffic, tunnel encapsulation/decapsulation, encryption/decryption, and traffic grooming for efficient processing of network flows. By utilizing many separate processors to match and manage flows, Netronome’s flow processors not only increase throughput of high bandwidth links, but also return valuable processor cycles to x86 cores of networking systems.

Netronome software includes DPDK device driver and Linux support for easy integration into x86 designs. Other software features include optimized Open vSwitch, and OpenFlow 1.3 integration along with solution stacks for cyber security, network analytics, and other Linux-based applications.

Highly optimized, next generation appliance and server designs which leverage Netronome’s NFP-6000 series of flow processors are now under development with full disclosure slated for the first quarter 2014.
