NEW YORK, NY, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- After jumping up to the # 2 spot on the latest AP rankings, the Florida Gators face their biggest challenge Saturday when they visit # 11 Auburn. The Gators are embarking on a brutal stretch of games and cannot afford a let-down against a hungry Tigers team looking to bounce back from a stinging home loss to Arkansas last weekend. Florida enters the game a slight one point underdog according to odds makers at Sportsbook.com, the world's largest online sportsbook and casino.
The top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes look to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 14 games as they continue their seemingly unstoppable run at a national championship Saturday when they visit the Michigan State Spartans. The last Ohio State team to begin the season 6-0 was the 2002 National Championship team. The Buckeyes, lead by Heisman candidate Troy Smith are 15 point favorites. The Big Ten is home to another national title contender, the # 4 Michigan Wolverines. Their quarterback, Chad Henne, will have to do without his favorite target when they visit Penn State. Wide receiver Mario Manningham will miss the game after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday. Despite having to do without the Big Ten's leading receiver, the Wolverines are a 6.5 point favorite to remain undefeated and keep pace with Ohio State.
Another undefeated team looking to stay in the BCS championship game hunt is West Virginia. The # 5 ranked Mountaineers survived a two-game road trip and are 5-0 heading into their Big East opener Saturday against Syracuse, where they are favored by 25 points.
Other games of note this week include the defending champion USC Trojans at home to Arizona State, where the # 3 Trojans are an 18.5 point bet. And two key Big Twelve North Division games could go a long way in determining who will play for the conference championship. # 19 Missouri and # 21 Nebraska are both 2-0 in Conference play and both face stiff competition on the road. The Tigers are two point favorites at Texas A&M while the Cornhuskers visit Kansas State as a 10.5 point favorite.
"Every game in the NCAA carries so much weight. Last week Auburn was # 2 in the country and was dreaming of a national title. One loss later and now they are out of the top ten and their season is practically finished," said Alex Czajkowski, Sportsbook.com. "The pressure is intense, the passions run high and that's why everybody loves and everybody bets on college football."
