In addition to the Capital's ticket promotion, the reception will launch a Computer Clubhouse Gaming Challenge through the support of the Entrepreneur Center @NVTC. The challenge will give participants the opportunity to become game designers and creators -- not just passive users -- by taking a project from its conception to "market." Challenge winners will be announced at the Capitals' game on March 27, 2007, with the winning game available for download on the Washington Capital Kids Web site. Throughout the hockey season, organizations and companies, such as the Electronic Software Alliance, will visit the Clubhouses to help mentor the design process.
Equal Footing Foundation's six Computer Clubhouses in Northern Virginia serve 1,300 students a week through after school programs located in established community centers. The goal is for students' ages 8-18, many without access to technology at home, to work with adult mentors to learn develop and explore their potential. Clubhouse programs are designed to excite students about learning, create fluency with new technologies, and help develop skills and experiences that will help youth succeed in their careers, contribute to their communities and lead outstanding lives.
