Constant Therapy, a developer of a cloud-based iPad solution enabling people with cognitive, language, communication and learning disorders to access evidence-based brain exercises, today announced that prominent high-tech, biotech and health-tech entrepreneur Frank Moss has joined the company as chief strategist and advisor.
Head of the New Media Medicine Group at MIT Media Lab and co-founder of Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Moss has had a notable 35-year career with MIT Media Lab, Bowstreet, IBM, Tivoli and many other high-tech firms. He is also currently a member of the executive advisory councils of the Mayo Clinic Innovation Center and the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
“I see many new ventures in the emerging medical technology field and Constant Therapy stands out as truly innovative since it solves the key challenges facing healthcare today – achieving better patient outcomes while delivering more high-quality care more efficiently. It offers a breakthrough mobile solution that empowers patients with evidence-based tasks they can use virtually anywhere and anytime with remote delivery and monitoring.”
According to the Brain Injury Association and the National Stroke Association, approximately 3.5 million people sustain a traumatic brain injury each year and 7 million people in the U.S. have survived a stroke. As a result, many of these survivors face life-altering diminished brain functions. One of the major obstacles for patients seeking to recover compromised speech, language and cognitive abilities is long-term, consistent access to high-quality therapy. Until now, patients have had to face three critical limitations: First, traditional therapy is typically limited to a one-hour session per week. Second, the quality of therapy can vary widely depending upon the clinician’s experience and access to evidence-based therapy tools. And third, when traditional therapy concludes due to insurance coverage limits or other constraints, so does a patient’s progress. Thus, many brain injury survivors suffer a “progress cliff” and are unable to reach their full potential to regain lost skills and abilities.
Born out of groundbreaking research at Boston University and in pilots with prominent and nationally recognized rehabilitation institutions, Constant Therapy removes these limitations with an innovative cloud-based iPad solution enabling patients to access tools for high-quality, evidence-based therapies anywhere and anytime. Clinicians can create highly customized rehabilitation programs for each patient, assign homework and monitor patient performance 24x7. With Constant Therapy, clinicians have more than 50 evidence-based categories of tasks with over 12,000 items and powerful remote monitoring analytics at their fingertips. Clinicians gain significant efficiencies and patients can get much more therapy than they would traditionally receive and at a consistently high-quality level. This can translate into better patient outcomes and, importantly, continuing improvement.
According to co-founder Veera Anantha, “We are excited that Frank has joined the Constant Therapy team and will be working with us on our technology and strategic direction. Frank believes Constant Therapy is a prime example of how advances in brain rehabilitation science and technology are reinventing the way healthcare is delivered. He also shares our vision of Constant Therapy as a model for providing brain rehabilitation across a wide range of populations of different ages and medical conditions.”
