Few fine art photographers devote a decade of their life to capture a city’s culture and ancestry with such utmost clarity and precision. The Prague Collection is the ultimate evidence, created by Canadian artistic photographer Daniel Sliz, presented in five conceptually designed editions of sixty canvas and fine art prints (www.danielsliz.com). This is not just ordinary photography, but a notable and visual chronicle of a city reaching into the future with its rich artistic, classical heritage that few cities of the world possess. In the tradition of fine art photography, Sliz interprets Prague in various seasons, revealing the city in all of its past historical periods of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism, and Romanticism.
Sixty-five years after notable Czech photographers, Josef Sudek (1896-1976) and Karel Plicka (1894-1987) first attempted to photographically express Prague’s historical period artistry, Sliz studied and took inspiration from these masters, uncovering long-forgotten and hidden aspects of this metropolis. Using his learned theories of painting, Sliz developed a personal interpretive style of attention to minute detail, yielding his own masterful photography, which is undeniably collectable art.
Daniel Sliz has traveled extensively and involved in independent studies of photography, art, history, painting techniques, statuary, and architecture. Daniel Sliz’s success with the Prague Collection will further enable his philanthropic efforts by supporting the Vancouver Island, Canada, Columbian Centre Society providing rehabilitation for adults with mental health and addiction concerns, and working with the Government of the Municipal City of Prague to increase and inspire tourism. Sliz will soon be revealing expanded works of other venues and natural landscapes in a coffee table book planned for 2014.
