PARIS, FRANCE -- (Marketwired) -- 12/09/13 -- MultiLing, the innovative leader in intellectual property (IP) translations and related services for foreign patent filings by Global 500 legal teams, today announced the appointment of Kevin Nelson to the new position of senior vice president of strategy and technology. Nelson will lead multi-million dollar technology initiatives to scale the company's professional business services for multinational enterprises.
Nelson brings nearly two decades of experience as a technology management executive. He is expected to leverage MultiLing's recent investment from Frontier Capital to enhance the company's position as the innovative leader in IP translation services.
"In 2014, we're investing millions of dollars in the best people, processes and technologies available for the translation and filing of foreign patent applications by Global 500 legal teams in the U.S., European and Asian markets," said Lyle Ball, chief operating officer, MultiLing. "Kevin's vast experience in driving strategic translation industry initiatives qualifies him to architect and implement technologies that meet our clients' rigorous requirements for quality, consistency and on-time delivery at a fair value."
Nearly 2 million patents were filed worldwide in 2012, according to statistics from the world's five largest patent offices (EPO, JPO, KIPO, SIPO and USPTO). Due to this 10.5 percent increase in patent filings over 2011, MultiLing has seen a dramatic rise in the number of U.S., European and Asian enterprises spending millions of dollars per year on translations. To accommodate this growth, MultiLing continues to invest in:
-- People such as Nelson and other key employees, including native linguists, scientists, engineers and legal specialists around the world, all committed to enabling global business; -- Processes that consolidate translation and other foreign patent filing tasks to interactive and specialized MultiLing teams for increased quality, transparency and efficiency; -- Technologies, including machine translation, terminology management and collaborative cross-language, multi-continent workflow.
During his career, Nelson has focused on driving strategic initiatives, implementing business efficiency improvements, increasing profitability, integrating international teams and creating talent-retaining environments for translation providers and other global enterprises. Before joining MultiLing, Nelson served in a variety of upper-management positions at OmniLingua Worldwide since 2005. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in international commerce and Japanese from Brigham Young University in 1993.
Founded in 1988, MultiLing is the innovative leader in IP translation and related services for foreign patent filings by Global 500 legal teams. The company defined and continues to drive best practices for foreign patent filings, which include in-country native linguists, scientists, engineers and legal specialists who interact through processes and technologies that increase quality, consistency and on-time delivery at a fair value. After partnering with MultiLing, multinational clients such as Procter & Gamble, Yokohama Rubber and Dow Corning experienced increased patent filings, decreased office actions, reduced invalidation risk and faster time to grant.
