sonarDesign Announces Availability of First Browser-Based Micro-App Development Platform for the Creative Professional

sonarDesign, a technology platform company focused on liberating creativity, today announced the beta availability of Sonar, a browser-based, cross-platform creation platform that offers an open marketplace for creative professionals to easily create, instantly share and monetize immersive micro-apps (mApps) – interactive experiences that are larger than a blog or video, but quicker and easier to create than native apps. Sonar was designed to replace expensive proprietary desktop suites with a flexible browser-based platform for creative professionals, including those without software development experience. Creatives looking for a new way to produce and deliver memorable stories, innovative presentations and moving images can design and immediately view them on any device with a modern browser.

With its proprietary user experience engine, Sonar separates itself from competitors as the only creation service that provides authors with a superior level of real-time, detailed user analytics. From every tap, movement, location and response, creative professionals are now able to monitor and analyze the effectiveness of their work (or mApps) to better understand audience engagement.

“Creative professionals want to create high-production value experiences with more interactivity, motion and user feedback and to know that their design is being respected across all devices,” said Jerry Bowerman, chief executive officer and co-founder of sonarDesign. “Very few have the ability to write the complex code for a cross-platform distribution service. Additionally, while we’ve seen an increase in online presentations and photos with eye-catching features, they’re restricted to only a handful of devices and certain browsers. Our Sonar platform delivers on both – it’s the most comprehensive service that any creative person can use to develop immersive experiences and share on any device with a modern browser.”

Additional key features of Sonar include:

  • Increased Flexibility and Performance: High-performance, vector-based rendering engine that draws directly to the HTML5 canvas, without using the Document Object Model (DOM). This ensures creative experiences will look the same across all devices.
  • No plug-ins required: Does not require Flash, Unity or any other proprietary plug-ins, as all components of the service are built using 100 percent HTML5 standards. Sonar was also developed in DART (Google’s new programming language), which offers a faster, more “native app” experience. Browsers without DART technology will use the company’s hand-tuned JavaScript, which delivers a smooth, interactive experience on all devices with a modern browser; the DART virtual machine simply increases performance for those without JavaScript.
  • Unprecedented Control: Sonar’s technology surpasses the functionalities of any other presentation technology, including the ability to zoom in and out, pan any direction, animate objects on screen, and layer objects on screen.

“Jerry and I recognized that the future of digital consumption is mobile, and we realized early on the tremendous value of HTML5 and the modern browsers that run it,” said chief technology officer and co-founder John Talley. “Sonar will be a game changer and liberator for the creative community. They no longer have to worry about operating systems, device compatibility or external approvals. Today, we are declaring independence from Flash and other device-dependent platforms. This will unleash a new market for creative services.”
