Guam-based communications company GTA expanded the range of services it provides to the U.S. military in the island by winning a five-year, $5.1 million contract from the U.S. Department of the Navy.
Under the terms of the contract, GTA will provide Blackberry and cellular phone wireless communication services in various locations to the Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Guam (NAVFAC). GTA was awarded the contract after a bidding process among several interested communications providers.
“Over the years, GTA has participated in federal bids to provide various communications services to the U.S. government. Through this process we have been successful in securing multiple contracts. This recent federal award is the largest granted to GTA to date,” said Robert Haulbrook, president and chief executive officer at GTA. “With the announcement of this $5.1 million contract, we look forward to providing exceptional service and significant savings while filling their communications needs for the next five years.”
Serving the military represents a significant business for GTA. Privately held GTA is a major quad-player in Guam. In addition to serving the U.S. government and military needs, over the past eight years it has expanded its service offerings, becoming a major quad-player in the island as well as the leading seller of smartphones. The company has invested more than $90 million on network enhancements since becoming privatized in 2005. In October, it launched 4G LTE to serve the increased demand for data service from its large smartphone subscriber base.
