HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 12/17/13 -- TOPS In America announced today its Top Italian Restaurant in Texas (Houston Edition) -- The Original Carrabba's on Kirby Drive, still owned by Johnny Carrabba and family, which will appear in Oprah's O Magazine, Food & Wine, and four other national magazines.
"Carrabba's the national chain is a great Italian Restaurant. But it's still a bit of a secret," TOPS CEO Tim Dillard said, "that the original Carrabba's has Johnny Carrabba and family running it. And by running it, I mean the place is amazing. Again, Carrabba's the chain is great. But the Original Carrabba's is at a different level and feel. You actually see Johnny walking around working the business. It's like watching a celebrity at work."
The Original Carrabba's was founded the day after Christmas in 1986 in almost the exact same location as it sits today. Johnny Carrabba and family maintain ownership of it and their second location at Woodway and Voss near the sprawling Second Baptist campus.
"We are excited to be a part of TOPS. To appear in the kind of magazines such as Oprah's O Magazine and Food & Wine Magazine in the PR is exciting for us. We believe we're tops. We work hard every day to keep up with the lofty expectations of being the original Carrabba's," said Johnny Carrabba.
Also selected as Tops In Texas are such notables as John Daughterty Realtors as Top Real Estate Firm, Taste of Texas Steakhouse as Top Steakhouse, Dr. Swet Chaudhari as Top Plastic Surgeon, BB1 Classic as Top Women's Specialty Store, Scott & Jane Orthodontics as Top Orthodontics Practice, Ooh La La as Top Dessert Shoppe, and many more.
Preferred sponsors for TOPS include, Time, Best Media, Texas Community Referral Network, Lifetime Courses Int., Steve Kyles with Legacy Mutual Mortgage and Apartment Boy.
TOPS selects companies as "tops" through a nomination process which rests on comparative interviews that reveal compelling stories. "Everyone can argue what and who is tops," said Mr. Dillard, "But no one can argue with a compelling story as top." Selected nominees may also appear in the company's public relations. TOPS has operations in 5 Texas cities, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi and soon to open in Alabama, Arkansas, Ohio, Michigan and California.
