Virginia Tech Hokies and UCLA Bruins Will Play on Hellas Matrix Turf for the Hyundai Sun Bowl

Matrix(R) Turf Is the Finest Synthetic Turf System Available; Each Matrix Turf Field Is Designed to Provide a Superior Athletic Experience at All Levels of Competition

EL PASO, TX--(Marketwired - December 30, 2013) - Virginia Tech and UCLA have accepted invitations to meet on Tuesday, December 31 for the 80th edition of the Hyundai Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. The 2013 Hyundai Sun Bowl will mark the first meeting between the two teams. The Sun Bowl Stadium is located on the campus of University of Texas at El Paso and has a current seating capacity of 51,500. The stadium is complete with the state of the art synthetic turf system, Matrix Turf, from Hellas Construction. The field design included solutions similar to the three-field conversion turf system Hellas installed in the AT&T Stadium, formerly Cowboys Stadium. The stadium utilizes the SoftTop™ removable system, but instead of a full conversion system, the field remains stationary while the end zones and logos are removed and replaced for different games like the Hyundai Sun Bowl. Reed J. Seaton, President and CEO of Hellas Construction commented on the upcoming game between Virginia Tech and UCLA, "the Hyundai Sun Bowl is one of my favorite bowl games" also adding "the stadium has been using Hellas products for more than three decades… should be a fantastic game."

"The Hyundai Sun Bowl is noted for its history, tremendous hospitality and how well it treats the game's participants year-in and year-out," said UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero. "Every time UCLA has traveled to El Paso the experience has been first class all the way, and we're excited to be a part of one of the oldest traditions in college football history." The Hokies' Hyundai Sun Bowl appearance is the 21st consecutive bowl appearance for Virginia Tech under Beamer. "We're very excited to have the chance to go back to El Paso and the Sun Bowl," said Jim Weaver, Virginia Tech Director of Athletics. "It was the first bowl game for Virginia Tech back in 1947 and we are looking forward to going back."

The 80th Hyundai Sun Bowl is scheduled for Tuesday, December 31 at noon (MST). CBS Sports will broadcast the game for the 46th consecutive year.
