ORMOND BEACH, Fla., Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday, January 2, 2014, the CodeRED emergency notification system, utilized by emergency management and public safety officials across the country, delivered nearly 2 million calls to residents and businesses in the projected path of the Nor'Easter that impacted the mid-Atlantic Coast. The CodeRED system, a service of Emergency Communications Network (ECN), is used by authorized government officials globally to deliver timely, public safety alerts regarding preparedness and recovery efforts related to critical events including winter storms.
The CodeRED Mobile Alert app, a public safety mobile communications tool, also pushed nearly 6,000 real-time, hyperlocal multimedia alerts to mobile subscribers within the location of a notification initiated by officials. Mobile messages and phone, text and email notifications warned of hazardous road conditions, heavy snow accumulations, wind chill factors and requests to remove vehicles for snow plowing.
"We closely monitored all of our redundant servers and dialing systems to ensure these critical messages were being delivered without fail and delay to the areas hardest hit by the storms. Plymouth County Sheriff's officials utilized the CodeRED system Thursday to deliver 10 separate notifications related to the snow storm and plan to send additional notifications throughout the weekend.
In addition to the nearly 2 million calls delivered to affected residents and businesses, the system also delivered more than 100,000 text and email notifications. The CodeRED system is used by more than 3,000 government agencies nationwide and globally and has been the lifeline for community notification during other major weather events and emergencies, including Superstorm Sandy, the Boston Marathon bombings and tornadoes in the Midwest.
