University of Miami School of Business and CareCloud Partner to Launch CareCloud Scholars Program

CareCloud, the fastest-growing provider of cloud-based practice management, electronic health records (EHR), and medical billing software and services, today announced it has partnered with the School of Business Administration at the University of Miami, the largest private research institution in the southeastern U.S., to foster healthcare talent and innovation in South Florida. The two organizations teamed up to launch CareCloud Scholars, a program that helps graduate students engage with and provide insight into South Florida’s healthcare community in an effort to support its development as a leading U.S. hub for the industry.

As part of the CareCloud Scholars program, representatives from the UM School of Business reviewed hundreds of applications from graduate students in its engineering and healthcare programs, and then selected 100 finalists based on essay and survey feedback. Those finalists will be asked to complete an essay question about their perceptions of the impact of technology in improving healthcare, as well as share their insights regarding the attractiveness of South Florida as both a healthcare hub and a base for their future career development. CareCloud will then sponsor finalists to attend the School’s healthcare impact conference titled, “The Business of Health Care: Bending the Cost Curve,” on January 17, 2014, preceded by a special session with CareCloud’s CEO Albert Santalo and Vice President of Marketing, Joseph Sawyer. This new program underscores the company's focus on promoting healthcare IT innovation in South Florida and extending Miami's leadership as an emerging hub.

“As a Miami-based company, we are very committed to helping the South Florida business community retain the exceptional talent that already exists here,” said Albert Santalo. “Through our partnership with the University of Miami School of Business, we are able to reach local college students and inform and inspire them to pursue careers in their own backyard, while simultaneously encouraging the development of our local ecosystem.”

As phase two of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is implemented, the Center for Health Sector Management and Policy at the School of Business will host the third in its series of premier healthcare impact conferences, The Business of Health Care: Bending the Cost Curve. The January conference will feature speakers like Olympia Snowe, former U.S. Senator; Diane Rowland, executive vice president of Henry J Kaiser Family Foundation; and James Winkler, senior vice president at Aon Hewitt, among others.

“We’re delighted to collaborate with CareCloud on this initiative, which will enable our students to interact with the leadership of a fast-growing firm that is driving innovation in the health sector,” said Steven G. Ullmann, director of the Center for Health Sector Management and Policy at the UM School of Business. “As CareCloud Scholars attending the conference, our students will also have a wonderful opportunity to gain insight about the business of health care and network with industry professionals.”
