Industry veterans Ted Haley and A.J. Whitehead join Avison Young in Charlotte

Additions expand firm's industrial and office presence in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC, Jan. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - John Linderman, Avison Young Principal and Managing Director of the company's North Carolina offices, announced today that commercial real estate veterans Ted Haley and A.J. Whitehead have joined the company in Charlotte.

Effective immediately, Haley joins Avison Young as a Principal, specializing in industrial brokerage. Whitehead will serve as a Vice-President in Charlotte and will spearhead office tenant-representation services. Haley and Whitehead have a combined 24 years of commercial real estate industry experience.

"We are extremely pleased to have Ted Haley and A.J. Whitehead join our growing operation in Charlotte," comments Linderman. "They are proven professionals in the Charlotte market, and their comprehensive commercial real estate experience and in-depth knowledge of the local market will enhance our ability to provide best-in-class service to our valued clients."

Haley and Whitehead will work as part of a team headed by Avison Young Principal Christopher Skibinski, who joined Avison Young in 2013 to help grow the Charlotte office as well as lead all industrial transactions in North Carolina.

"Chris has built an incredibly strong team in Charlotte in a short amount of time," adds Linderman. "We are excited about now being able to offer our clients a full scope of real estate service solutions across North Carolina."

Avison Young opened its first offices in North Carolina in October 2012 in Raleigh and Chapel Hill when the company acquired Raleigh-based Thomas Linderman Graham Inc. The acquisition added 60 employees to Avison Young's operations, with Linderman joining as a Principal and Managing Director of the Raleigh-Durham offices. The company opened the Charlotte office in May 2013 with Skibinski joining as a Principal.

"The additions of Ted and A.J. expand Avison Young's industrial and office presence in Charlotte. Their arrival demonstrates Avison Young's increasing commitment to the Charlotte market and serves as another important step in the execution of our company's aggressive growth plan," states Skibinski.

Haley brings 13 years of commercial real estate experience to Avison Young.  He most recently served as a Vice-President for Lincoln Harris in Charlotte where he focused on representing owners and end users of office and industrial space.  In his new role he will solely focus on all facets of the industrial sector.

Haley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a licensed broker in both North Carolina and South Carolina and serves as a member of the Charlotte Region Commercial Board of Realtors.

"I am thrilled to join Avison Young as it continues its aggressive expansion across the U.S.," says Haley. "I am particularly excited for the opportunity to become part of the company's ownership group and to participate in its principal-led culture."

Whitehead joins Avison Young from Grubb Properties, where he was a senior commercial broker overseeing the sales, marketing and leasing of the company's 500,000-square-foot commercial portfolio in the Charlotte region. Prior to that, he served as a Vice-President for Jones Lang LaSalle. Whitehead has negotiated 1.2 million square feet of lease transactions valued in excess of $100 million in various parts of the country, including New York City, Chicago and Charlotte.

Whitehead is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and management information systems. He is currently a member of the Charlotte Region Commercial Board of Realtors and is a licensed real estate professional in both North Carolina and South Carolina.

"The ongoing growth of Avison Young throughout North America has been exciting to witness, and I look forward to enhancing the company's expansion efforts in the Charlotte region," says Whitehead. "Avison Young's culture of collaboration across offices and service lines will be a tremendous asset in providing the highest caliber of service possible to clients."

Today's announcement comes on the heels of Avison Young acquiring Atlanta-based The Eidson Group yesterday.

Over the past five years, Avison Young has grown from 11 to 53 offices and from 300 to more than 1,500 real estate professionals across Canada and the U.S.

Avison Young is the world's fastest-growing commercial real estate services firm. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, Avison Young is a collaborative, global firm owned and operated by its principals. Founded in 1978, the company comprises 1,500 real estate professionals in 53 offices, providing value-added, client-centric investment sales, leasing, advisory, management, financing and mortgage placement services to owners and occupiers of office, retail, industrial and multi-family properties.

We are reaching the end of the beginning with WebRTC, and real systems using this technology have begun to appear. One challenge that faces every WebRTC deployment (in some form or another) is identity management. For example, if you have an existing service – possibly built on a variety of different PaaS/SaaS offerings – and you want to add real-time communications you are faced with a challenge relating to user management, authentication, authorization, and validation. Service providers will w...
The term culture has had a polarizing effect among DevOps supporters. Some propose that culture change is critical for success with DevOps, but are remiss to define culture. Some talk about a DevOps culture but then reference activities that could lead to culture change and there are those that talk about culture change as a set of behaviors that need to be adopted by those in IT. There is no question that businesses successful in adopting a DevOps mindset have seen departmental culture change, ...
The Internet of Things is tied together with a thin strand that is known as time. Coincidentally, at the core of nearly all data analytics is a timestamp. When working with time series data there are a few core principles that everyone should consider, especially across datasets where time is the common boundary. In his session at Internet of @ThingsExpo, Jim Scott, Director of Enterprise Strategy & Architecture at MapR Technologies, discussed single-value, geo-spatial, and log time series dat...
There's Big Data, then there's really Big Data from the Internet of Things. IoT is evolving to include many data possibilities like new types of event, log and network data. The volumes are enormous, generating tens of billions of logs per day, which raise data challenges. Early IoT deployments are relying heavily on both the cloud and managed service providers to navigate these challenges. In her session at Big Data Expo®, Hannah Smalltree, Director at Treasure Data, discussed how IoT, Big D...
The Internet of Things promises to transform businesses (and lives), but navigating the business and technical path to success can be difficult to understand. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Sean Lorenz, Technical Product Manager for Xively at LogMeIn, demonstrated how to approach creating broadly successful connected customer solutions using real world business transformation studies including New England BioLabs and more.
The security devil is always in the details of the attack: the ones you've endured, the ones you prepare yourself to fend off, and the ones that, you fear, will catch you completely unaware and defenseless. The Internet of Things (IoT) is nothing if not an endless proliferation of details. It's the vision of a world in which continuous Internet connectivity and addressability is embedded into a growing range of human artifacts, into the natural world, and even into our smartphones, appliances, a...
The Internet of Things will put IT to its ultimate test by creating infinite new opportunities to digitize products and services, generate and analyze new data to improve customer satisfaction, and discover new ways to gain a competitive advantage across nearly every industry. In order to help corporate business units to capitalize on the rapidly evolving IoT opportunities, IT must stand up to a new set of challenges. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jeff Kaplan, Managing Director of THINKstrateg...
Fundamentally, SDN is still mostly about network plumbing. While plumbing may be useful to tinker with, what you can do with your plumbing is far more intriguing. A rigid interpretation of SDN confines it to Layers 2 and 3, and that's reasonable. But SDN opens opportunities for novel constructions in Layers 4 to 7 that solve real operational problems in data centers. "Data center," in fact, might become anachronistic - data is everywhere, constantly on the move, seemingly always overflowing. Net...

WebRTC defines no default signaling protocol, causing fragmentation between WebRTC silos. SIP and XMPP provide possibilities, but come with considerable complexity and are not designed for use in a web environment. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Matthew Hodgson, technical co-founder of the Matrix.org, discussed how Matrix is a new non-profit Open Source Project that defines both a new HTTP-based standard for VoIP & IM signaling and provides reference implementations.

The definition of IoT is not new, in fact it’s been around for over a decade. What has changed is the public's awareness that the technology we use on a daily basis has caught up on the vision of an always on, always connected world. If you look into the details of what comprises the IoT, you’ll see that it includes everything from cloud computing, Big Data analytics, “Things,” Web communication, applications, network, storage, etc. It is essentially including everything connected online from ha...

Connected devices and the Internet of Things are getting significant momentum in 2014. In his session at Internet of @ThingsExpo, Jim Hunter, Chief Scientist & Technology Evangelist at Greenwave Systems, examined three key elements that together will drive mass adoption of the IoT before the end of 2015. The first element is the recent advent of robust open source protocols (like AllJoyn and WebRTC) that facilitate M2M communication. The second is broad availability of flexible, cost-effective ...
