TV Triumph! TiVo Sets GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS(R) Title for Marathon Television Watching at International Consumer Electronics Show

3 Participants Watched 87 Hours of TV; World Record Underscores World's Best Source of Content to Support Binging -- TiVo

LAS VEGAS, NV -- (Marketwired) -- 01/10/14 -- History was made today at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) when 3 TV fans continuously watched 87 hours of recorded television and broke the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® record for the longest marathon watching television session. As part of the TiVo TV Binge-Viewing World Record Attempt*, Dan Jordan, Spencer Larson and Chris Laughlin made the TiVo booth on the Convention Center show floor their home and watched nearly four days of binge-worthy TV programming through TiVo Roamio, which offers live and recorded TV, streaming video and video on demand --the most content, all at once and in one place.

"We're honored to receive this official recognition from the team at Guinness World Records," said Tom Rogers, President and CEO of TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO). "This ultimate marathon to set the TiVo TV Binge-Viewing World Record was a true feat of persistence and we're all really proud of our participants. The record was made possible by the enjoyment and passion for TV, as demonstrated by dozens of excited and patient volunteers from the Las Vegas tech community, and of course for our TiVo Roamio -- the only way to get all your regular live cable channels, streaming content and video-on-demand anytime, anywhere."

TiVo's TV Binge-Viewing World Record Attempt began at 7 p.m. PT on January 6 and ended at 10:00 a.m. PT on January 10. Three participants started the attempt together and all finished together. The previous world record for the longest marathon watching television was held by two Californians who watched consecutive episodes of FOX's "The Simpsons" for more than 86 hours in 2012.

"When we arrived on Monday at 5 PM we had no idea what we were in for," said Dan Jordan on behalf of all three contestants. "It's been a long week but it's been fun. Thanks to TiVo for helping us achieve a world record."

Television and radio host Chris Cashman served as host and emcee of the TiVo TV Binge-Viewing World Record Attempt, and dozens of volunteers from the Las Vegas community served as official timekeepers and witnesses, observing the guidelines set by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS. Video segments of the attempt can be found at Youtube.com/TiVo. During the attempt, each participant received a five-minute break (for sleep, trips to bathroom, etc.) for every one hour of the attempt, in keeping with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS regulations. The three participants were allowed to eat and drink while watching TV, and could also change channels while looking at the screen, although talking on the telephone or reading was prohibited.

The TiVo Roamio Series includes three models: TiVo Roamio ($199.99), TiVo Roamio Plus ($399.99) and TiVo Roamio Pro ($599.99). A TiVo Service subscription is required and sold separately. Roamio features four or six tuners and unprecedented storage (ranging from 75 hours to 450 hours of HD content). The improved speed and performance of TiVo Roamio also includes integrated wireless and TiVo Stream functionality in the Plus and Pro models. With the Roamio family of products, along with TiVo Mini, customers can replace their cable DVR and associated monthly DVR box rental and DVR service fees, and even save money every month with TiVo Roamio or a whole-home TiVo solution and a TiVo service subscription.

The Internet of Things is a misnomer. That implies that everything is on the Internet, and that simply should not be - especially for things that are blurring the line between medical devices that stimulate like a pacemaker and quantified self-sensors like a pedometer or pulse tracker. The mesh of things that we manage must be segmented into zones of trust for sensing data, transmitting data, receiving command and control administrative changes, and peer-to-peer mesh messaging. The web app is Agile. The REST API is Agile. The testing and planning are Agile. But alas, Data infrastructures certainly are not. While great strides have been made relative to the video aspects of remote collaboration, audio technology has basically stagnated. There is no question that the cloud is where businesses want to host data. Until recently hypervisor virtualization was the most widely used method in cloud computing. However, the container space has evolved drastically since coming on...
