Local Leaders Urge Patrons to "Turn Up the Tips" at Charleston Area Restaurants

CHARLESTON, W.Va., Jan. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Charleston City Councilman Andy Richardson is coordinating an effort with several local legislators – including Delegates Doug Skaff and Eric Nelson and Sens. Chris Walters and Corey Palumbo – to ask local residents to "turn up the tips" as restaurants affected by the water crisis reopen.

"One of the many consequences of the contamination problem that left water in much of the Kanawha Valley largely unusable for several days is that the incomes of hard-working restaurant employees have been cut as the restaurants were forced to close," Skaff said.

Nelson added, "When you visit these restaurants in the days ahead, please consider leaving an extra tip to help these people."

Likewise, Palumbo said, "Please consider more strongly supporting those who rely on the community's generosity."

Walters said, "These are West Virginians who live paycheck to paycheck, and we need to help them."

Posters are being distributed to bring attention to the "Turn Up the Tips" campaign. "We hope these posters will remind people who visit local restaurants as they reopen to leave a little bit more money on the table," Richardson said. "It will go a long way toward getting things back to normal in Charleston and many nearby communities.

TSG Consulting, a public relations and governmental affairs firm, is helping Richardson and the legislators with outreach in this effort. Anyone wanting copies of the posters may call TSG Consulting at 304-345-1161.
