Australian International Documentary Conference Announces Roy Ackerman, Managing Director of Fresh One Productions Will Speak During DocWeek and Help Launch Talent@AIDC Opportunity

Adelaide 4 March-7 March 2014

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/13/14 -- AIDC has announced Roy Ackerman, Managing Director of Fresh One, as key speaker for the 2014 Conference in Adelaide, Australia and offer an amazing opportunity for an Australian to come and work at his company.

Fresh One is the London based production hub, founded in 2000 by Jamie Oliver. It has expanded beyond the award-winning campaigning food and factual entertainment Jamie programs such as Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, Jamie's Kitchen, Ministry of Food and Jamie's School Dinners, and in recent years has moved into documentary, music and arts, entertainment and drama with shows including: Dream School (UK and USA); food formats The Restaurant Inspector, Two Greedy Italians and Chef Race: ITV prime time hit Les Dawson: An Audience With That Never Was; music shows Streetdance, The Sound of Musicals, Idris Elba's How Clubbing/Hip Hop Changed the World; Cheryl Cole Access All Areas and James Rhodes Piano Man/Notes from the Inside; Doc series Jonathan Dimbleby's African/American Journeys, The Men Who Made Us Fat/Thin,; drama miniseries Spies of Warsaw starring David Tennant; and US feature doc hit Richard Pryor: Omit the Logic.

Jamie's vision for the company was to create a brand that stands for the highest of production values and makes entertaining programs that can change lives for the better. Roy Ackerman brought in industry legends such as Claudia Rosencrantz (who was the executive behind global phenomena X-Factor, Pop Idol, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, I'm A Celebrity, Dancing On Ice, Hell's Kitchen and a host of other hits before running a portfolio of channels for Virgin), Mark Sammon (Commissioning Editor at Sky, Virgin and ITV) to support founders Jo Ralling and Zoe Collins, who built the Jamie brand on TV. The company has tripled in size and kept that inspirational spirit, taking it into the new genres. Its core skills are Food, Talent, Entertainment, Factual, Formats and Music. Its biggest growth area is in digital -- with the launch of new digital channel of the year, Food Tube.

Roy Ackerman is a multi award-winning executive producer of formats, documentaries and drama and builder of creative businesses. Amongst his biggest hits before joining Fresh One are the 2009 BAFTA-winner format Election, the hit format and winner of RTS Broadcast and Prix Italia awards, Operatunity, and its award-winning follow-ups Musicality and Ballet Changed My Life. He's overseen a string of prize-winning theatrical and TV documentaries including Sundance winners Why We Fight and The House I Live In (Oscar shortlisted), 100% White, House of War, Not Cricket, Tsunami: 7 Hours on Boxing Day, and Gonzo -- as well as BAFTA shortlisted drama Mrs Mandela.

Since joining Fresh One in 2009, he has led the expansion into new genres and platforms. He has executive produced the hit series Dream School in the UK and US and many of the other Fresh One shows.

Roy Ackerman said; "I'm delighted to be invited at AIDC which is a great world industry event. Australia's a vital market for Fresh One and Jamie; I relish the chance to connect with everyone in Adelaide. I'm especially pleased to help launch Access@AIDC. We all need a break and I hope this initiative is the start of a new wave of opportunities for young people."

Fresh One Productions has also partnered with AIDC in a new career development program called ACCESS@AIDC and Roy Ackerman will mentor fresh talent with the final outcome being an internship for four weeks at Fresh One in the United Kingdom.
