EdgeConneX(R) and Open-IX Enter an MOU to Certify Its Houston, TX Data Center

Next Up: Certification to Be sought for Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas

HERNDON, VA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/16/14 -- EdgeConneX®, a data center provider specializing in content hosting at the edge of the network, today announced it has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Open-IX (OIX) to certify its Houston, TX Edge Data Center (EDC), along with the intent to certify additional data centers in Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas markets by the end of Q1 2014.

EdgeConneX's Edge Data Center in Houston is served by multiple network providers including Zayo, Alpheus and Level 3. The Houston EDC is built out to support and deliver high-bandwidth solutions commonly required by content providers and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). Edge Data Centers optimize the delivery of any content, anywhere, instantly -- and are the closest access point to many of the region's end consumers of content.

"Open-IX's recent announcement to begin certification of North American data centers and Internet exchanges propelled EdgeConneX to announce its commitment and intent to adhere to the technical and operational standards defined by today's leading industry professionals," comments Clint Heiden, Chief Commercial Officer of EdgeConneX. "While EdgeConneX executes on an aggressive roll-out of our network Edge Data Centers, we are excited to be one of the first providers to design our data centers and implement the OIX standards required by today's content delivery networks and service providers."

In order to become an OIX-certified data center or Internet Exchange Point (IXP), companies must first initiate the process by submitting an application. The OIX executive board reviews each application and once accepted, data centers and IXPs are required to complete a compliance report to adhere to OIX technical requirements. EdgeConneX will begin implementing best practices and making submissions of its EDC facilities for review to meet certifications, starting with Houston, TX and followed by an additional four locations within the first quarter of 2014.

We certainly live in interesting technological times. And no more interesting than the current competing IoT standards for connectivity. Various standards bodies, approaches, and ecosystems are vying for mindshare and positioning for a competitive edge. It is clear that when the dust settles, we will have new protocols, evolved protocols, that will change the way we interact with devices and infrastructure. We will also have evolved web protocols, like HTTP/2, that will be changing the very core...
NuoDB just introduced the Swifts 2.1 Release. In this demo at 15th Cloud Expo, Seth Proctor, CTO of NuoDB, Inc., discussed why scaling databases in the cloud is challenging, why building your application on top of the infrastructure that is designed with this in mind makes a difference, and what you can do with NuoDB that simplifies your programming model, your operations model.
CA Technologies released a new study – “DevOps: The Worst-Kept Secret to Winning in the Application Economy” – that reveals that 82% of enterprises in Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) already have or plan to adopt a DevOps strategy, a 12 point increase from last year’s figure of 70%. DevOps is a methodology which helps foster collaboration between the teams that create and test applications (Dev) with those that maintain them in production environments (Ops). Vanson Bourne conducted the survey with...

Enthusiasm for the Internet of Things has reached an all-time high. In 2013 alone, venture capitalists spent more than $1 billion dollars investing in the IoT space. With "smart" appliances and devices, IoT covers wearable smart devices, cloud services to hardware companies. Nest, a Google company, detects temperatures inside homes and automatically adjusts it by tracking its user's habit. These technologies are quickly developing and with it come challenges such as bridging infrastructure gaps,...

The Domain Name Service (DNS) is one of the most important components in networking infrastructure, enabling users and services to access applications by translating URLs (names) into IP addresses (numbers). Because every icon and URL and all embedded content on a website requires a DNS lookup loading complex sites necessitates hundreds of DNS queries. In addition, as more internet-enabled ‘Things' get connected, people will rely on DNS to name and find their fridges, toasters and toilets. Acco...
Today’s enterprise is being driven by disruptive competitive and human capital requirements to provide enterprise application access through not only desktops, but also mobile devices. To retrofit existing programs across all these devices using traditional programming methods is very costly and time consuming – often prohibitively so. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jesse Shiah, CEO, President, and Co-Founder of AgilePoint Inc., discussed how you can create applications that run on all mobile ...

The Internet of Things is a misnomer. That implies that everything is on the Internet, and that simply should not be - especially for things that are blurring the line between medical devices that stimulate like a pacemaker and quantified self-sensors like a pedometer or pulse tracker. The mesh of things that we manage must be segmented into zones of trust for sensing data, transmitting data, receiving command and control administrative changes, and peer-to-peer mesh messaging. In his session a...
