Trevor Bolin of Fort St. John, British Columbia, is especially grateful for his Vivint carbon monoxide detector. One afternoon when he went home for lunch, his Vivint alarm sounded and he received a phone call from a monitoring professional warning him of high carbon monoxide levels. The Vivint agent didn't waste any time urging the Bolins to get out of their house until help arrived.

"I told them everything was fine," says Bolin, "but they sent the fire department anyway, and it was a good thing they did! The fire department found that the carbon monoxide level in our boiler room—which is right next to our kids' playroom—was at 189ppm. There's a good chance that none of us would have woken up. I'm so glad Vivint recommended that we exit the home—and that they recommended we place our carbon monoxide detector in the boiler room so that it could detect a problem before it reached the rest of the house. Thank you, Vivint, for contacting the fire department even though I said we didn't need them."

Bolin is just one of many Canadian customers benefitting from Vivint's protection and excellent monitoring. The company began offering services in Canada in 2006, and Vivint has supported a local presence in the country ever since. With local headquarters in Calgary, Vivint offers services in the Canadian provinces to ensure prompt service and readily available attention. In the summer of 2013, Vivint had almost 400 sales representatives and nearly 200 technical personnel working in Canada.

One of 80,000 customers in Canada, Heather McNutt of Red Deer, Alberta, and her family had an exceptional installation experience. McNutt says the care and sense of security her family receives from Vivint makes the company stand out among competitors.

Says McNutt, "Another company wanted us to look at their system, but they didn't answer our questions. Then came Vivint. The technicians came right away and were knowledgeable and friendly, and we feel just as safe with our new Vivint security system."

Even though it’s now Microservices Journal, long-time fans of SOA World Magazine can take comfort in the fact that the URL – soa.sys-con.com – remains unchanged. And that’s no mistake, as microservices are really nothing more than a new and improved take on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) best practices we struggled to hammer out over the last decade. Skeptics, however, might say that this change is nothing more than an exercise in buzzword-hopping. SOA is passé, and now that people are ...
