Migrated, .NET-based systems have been rolled out to over 800 BSkyB business users, ending a strategic application platform standardization project on a high note.
Firefly Migration announced today that British Sky Broadcasting, the largest pay-TV broadcaster in the UK and Ireland with more that 10 million customers, has fully converted its custom-made Broadcast Scheduling System (BSS) from its existing application platform to Microsoft's .NET, using Firefly Migration's 100% automated conversion solution.
"This migration has been extremely successful - completed under budget and weeks ahead of schedule. Our mission-critical broadcast systems are now using an industry standard, flexible platform, which will enable us to scale our development resources and deliver effectively and efficiently to our business users," said Jimmy Kawa, Project Manager at BSkyB.
Firefly Migration's solution allowed Sky continued development and maintenance of BSS throughout the migration project, and instant user adoption of the migrated system. These were main project goals set by Sky, as BSS, a key enabler for Sky's linear TV channels and Video-On-Demand products, is a "living" system, constantly maintained and enhanced by Sky's internal development team.
