AT&T U-verse Adds Jobs As It Grows In Kansas City

Nation's Fastest-Growing TV Provider Hiring 70 Premise Technicians in the Area

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* today announced it is seeking applicants for about 70 U-verse premise technicians in the Kansas City area. The company plans to begin filling these positions immediately.

The job openings come as AT&T U-verse TV, High-Speed Internet and Voice service continues to grow in the Kansas City area. More than 100,000 customers now subscribe to AT&T U-verse TV service in the Kansas City area – a noteworthy milestone for the fastest-growing TV service in the U.S.**

"Such strong growth demonstrates how U-verse is helping transform AT&T into a premier IP broadband company," said John Sondag, AT&T Missouri president. "We are particularly pleased that our success is creating jobs for Kansas City area residents."

This marks the latest expansion of AT&T U-verse in the Kansas City area, where AT&T U-verse first launched in March 2007. AT&T U-verse services are now available to more than 500,000 customer locations in and around Kansas City.

More than 10 million customers nationwide now subscribe to AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet service – a major achievement in the company's ongoing effort to bring IP broadband access to more people.

The growth is due in part to AT&T's Project Velocity IP — its multi-billion dollar, three-year investment plan to improve its wireless and wireline IP networks. Since announcing Project VIP, the company has added about 2.5 million broadband customer locations. The plan calls for expanding IP broadband to reach approximately 57 million customer locations by the end of 2015.

The plan also calls for Internet speed upgrades. In 2013, AT&T rolled out U-verse High Speed Internet Power with up to 45 Mbps download speeds in 79 markets.  And the company plans to raise speeds up to 75 and 100 Mbps in the future.

U-verse stands apart because it is 100 percent IP-based. For example, it can combine services like video and web content, personalize the TV experience and quickly adapt to trends and changing needs. AT&T's fiber optic-based network delivers the service. U-verse was the first IP-based TV service in the country.

U-verse customers also have access to new and creative apps that bring their TV, broadband, wireless and home phone services together.

AT&T U-verse received the Women's Choice Award and was named "America's Best For Home Internet Service Provider." AT&T U-verse TV was named the Frost & Sullivan Video Company of the Year. U-verse has also been honored with numerous innovation awards.

DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. The Internet of Things (IoT) is causing data centers to become radically decentralized and atomized within a new paradigm known as “fog computing.” To support IoT applications, such as connected cars and smart grids, data centers' core functions will be decentralized out to the network's edges and endpoints (aka “fogs”). As this trend takes hold, Big Data analytics platforms will focus on high-volume log analysis (aka “logs”) and rely heavily on cognitive-computing algorithms (aka “cogs”) to mak...
