WILMINGTON, N.C., Jan. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Any retail store that sells luxury items can be a target for desperate criminals—just an armload of merchandise can be worth thousands. Saturday, January 18, REEDS Jewelers at Wolfchase Galleria in Memphis, TN was robbed without warning. Six hooded men smashed jewelry cases and fled with numerous Rolex watches.
These sorts of incidents arouse people's worst fears about humanity, but also present them the opportunity to show moral character in response. Two Memphis citizens answered the call and did the right thing. These locals, one male and one female, each found a Rolex watch. Having heard news of the crime, they returned the watches to REEDS with no expectation of reward and have aided the police in their investigation. "These two community members are indicative of the good people of Memphis," said REEDS Jewelers President and CEO Alan M. Zimmer. "We are proud that REEDS has been part of the Memphis community for 19 years and incredibly grateful of the support Memphis has shown us."
On January 22nd, Zimmer called and personally thanked the two and gave them each $1,000 good toward anything in the store. "I was pleased to learn that one of the good Samaritans purchased his wife's jewelry from REEDS," said Zimmer. "His selflessly returning valuable stolen merchandise just reaffirms to me the character of the customers we serve in Memphis."
REEDS re-opened for business on January 22 and continues to serve the community. "I am personally grateful for the tremendous staff we have at our Wolfchase Galleria store, the staff and security personnel at the mall; as well as the Memphis Police Department. All of us at REEDS are thankful that no one was hurt in the robbery, and inspired by the actions of the good Samaritans and response of the Memphis community," said Zimmer.
REEDS Jewelers was founded in 1946 in Wilmington, NC by Bill and Roberta Zimmer. Reeds Jewelers operate two stores in the Memphis area: one at Carriage Crossing in Collierville, and our store in Wolfchase Galleria. Understanding that the trust of their customers was their most valuable asset, the Zimmer family has carefully grown REEDS Jewelers into one of the largest family-owned jewelry store chains in the country. www.reeds.com
