NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 01/28/14 -- The New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-NY) has released a call for entries for the 2014 Big Apple Awards, asking public relations practitioners in the Tri-State Area to submit their best work for consideration. For the first time ever, the chapter will accept entries through an online portal, offering a user- and eco-friendly way to participate in the competition.
Widely regarded as one of the industry's most prestigious accolades, the Big Apple Awards honor innovative and strategic PR campaigns and projects. The competition is open to communications professionals based in the New York metropolitan region or to professionals outside the region whose campaign was at least partially conducted in New York. They are invited to submit their best work/campaigns conducted during 2013 for consideration. Early bird pricing, offering PRSA-NY members and non-member a $100 savings on each entry, is available through February 14, with a final entry deadline of March 3. Winners will be announced at the annual Big Apple Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 22 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City.
"PRSA-NY's annual Big Apple Awards recognize excellence in our profession," said Henry Feintuch, president, PRSA-NY and president, Feintuch Communications. "This year, we are making it easier than ever for PR pros to participate by our investment in an electronic contest management system. This means no more printing out of work, assembling physical binders and shipping them to PRSA-NY. It's also quite simple now to submit campaigns into additional relevant categories."
The New York Chapter of PRSA established the Big Apple Awards in 1988 to celebrate excellence in public relations. A panel of leading industry professionals will judge the entries on research, planning, execution and results. New for 2014, bonus points will be awarded for entries that not only have impressive media results, but also clearly can point to direct business or other campaign outcomes. Each unique campaign can be submitted in up to three relevant categories, with discounts offered for second and third categories, and winners from each category are eligible for the top recognition "Best of the Best" award.
2014 Big Apple Award categories include:

Under each category in the campaign division, there is a sub-category for campaigns with budgets of $100,000 or less. These entries will also be judged on the additional criteria of creative use of a limited budget.
"By adding a $100,000 or less sub-category, we're hoping to level the playing field and encourage solo practitioners, boutique to mid-size agencies, non-profits or anyone that may be limited by budget to enter," said Mr. Feintuch.
The "Best of the Best" in Research will be judged for the seventh year by the prestigious Institute for Public Relations, an independent foundation dedicated to the science beneath the art of public relations and focused on research that is immediately applicable in communications practice.
The chapter's new online entry system, accessible through the PRSA-NY website, provides registrants with simple, intuitive instructions to build their entries section-by-section online as their schedules permit as well as upload digital attachments including Word and PDF files; and audio, video and graphic files to support their entry. Entries will only be accepted online. This should provide more time for entry preparation and a simplified, time-savings means of entering a campaign into additional relevant categories. It creates savings in postage/delivery charges and eliminates paper and copying costs. The system also contains a secure credit card payment area.
